Pay Philosophy
The typical starting salary for this position is determined by a number of factors including but not limited to acquired skills experience education and certifications/designations. This position may be eligible for annual merit increases and participation in our bonus program.

Columbia Insurance is searching for a Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant. In this position you will beassisting underwriters in the rating evaluation and processing of new business applications quotes endorsements and renewals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Review applications renewals and change requests; gather necessary information and make decisions regarding risk acceptability within prescribed limits of authority
- Communicate with agents regarding risk acceptance declination or modifications within prescribed limits of authority
- Learn through education and training technical information regarding underwriting coverages rates and risk selection
- Compute rates on applications endorsements and quotes as necessary
- Review and/or process premium audit statements to include updating the current term policy
- Actively participate in the system testing assigned to the Branch Office
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent communication and customer service skills both written and verbal
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree strongly preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous commercial insurance experience and knowledge of commercial lines rating and underwriting concepts
- Previous agency relations experience and supplemental insurance education
- Ability to work well with a diverse group of people in a team environment
