ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the worlds largest humanitarian agency working to create a world with zero hunger. WFP and its partners believe that no child should go to bed hungry and that individual and collective wellbeing can only be achieved if all children women and men get the nutritious food they need to lead healthy dignified lives. Each year WFP assists 86.7 million people in 83 countries. Every day some 5600 WFPchartered trucks are on the road 92 planes are in the air and 20 ships are at sea. These numbers speak to WFPs unparalleled reputation as an emergency responder one that is often the first on the scene in the most difficult environments. WFP also works with partners to strengthen the resilience of communities most vulnerable to hunger and malnutrition through longterm development programmes aimed at boosting food security local economies education employment and gender equality. While hunger and malnutrition are the worlds largest solvable issues the needs are still immense and growing. 821 million people in the world suffer from chronic hunger.
To get to a world with Zero Hunger faster WFP is investing in and growing private sector fundraising and partnerships to reach more people. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals to codevelop and implement the new global foundation engagement strategy of WFP as part of our new private partnerships and fundraising strategy.
The Private Partnerships Division (PSP) is responsible for engaging the private sector (corporations individuals foundations) through highimpact partnerships in support of WFPs strategic priorities and through individual giving to build and retain support from the general public worldwide.
The private sector is uniquely qualified to play a leadership role in ending hunger. Some of the largest and most respected brands and companies in the world such as MasterCard Royal DSM Facebook Google and many others are helping achieve zero hunger by enabling WFP to strengthen operations reach more people fund lifesaving programs and build public support. They choose to partner with WFP because of WFPs reach scale and track record to create innovative partnerships that leverage their unique strengths and create lasting impact. WFP is investing in significantly growing its work with the private sector (including with corporates foundations and individual giving).
Currently PSP is implementing a new Partnerships and Fundraising Strategy that emphasizes on fundraising from the public for fully flexible giving and from technical corporate partners primarily for their dedicated expertise capability and advocacy support. This strategy is associated to a PSP investment case and a retention mechanism with the purpose of reinvesting funding to further grow revenue.
This very diversified portfolio of workstreams requires that the PSP division has strong systems and processes in place to be accountable for contributions and budgetary management and implementation in compliance with WFP and international regulations and further to enable and improve data driven decision making.
PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
To comply with the divisional responsibilities and the challenges across a wide range of tasks regarding the overall grant and financial management PSP requires a Grants Management Consultant to work in the Grants Management Team under the direct supervision of the Head of Grants Management The selected candidate will work closely and liaise with PSPs Accounts Managers as well as counterparts in other relevant divisions in Headquarters Regional Bureaux and Country Offices globally
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Within delegated authority the Grants Management Consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
The registration of Grants (income) in SAP WINGS from Privatesector partners in line with WFP rules & regulations and PSPs internal processes which includes reviewing & confirming all Salesforce opportunities raised by the Partnership Managers creating new donor accounts in SAP WINGS and assisting with the valuation of InKind contributions.
Support the Head of Grants Management with reviewing donor contribution agreements.
Focal point for the Balance Transfer exercise.
Support CO RB HQ with GM related requests such as grant extensions allocations migrations and twinning.
Identify private sector payments in the Treasury Clearing Account (TCA) and advise on the relevant grants for the cash clearing.
Prepare Payment Requests when necessary following requests from the relevant Partnership Managers.
Update Partnership managers on new processes and relevant Grant registration guidelines and procedures.
Ensure a timely yearend closure in terms of contribution registration and income recognition in its correct period.
Perform other related duties as required.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT
Contribution Income is registered in WINGS in a timely manner with relevant supporting documentations attached.
Private sector payments from companies/foundations are properly identified in the TCA with the relevant grant created
All requests such as extensions balance transfers and invoices are cleared in a timely manner
Yearend closure successful and timely all income is recognized in the correct period
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education
University degree in Finance Business Administration Accounting or related fields
Work history
3 years of experience in Finance Accounting or related
Technical skills
Essential computer skills in Microsoft Office applications: proficiency in WordPowerPoint and Excel
Advanced knowledge of Excel
Knowledge of SAP software is an advantage
Work experience within the United Nations system or a similar international organization in humanitarian/development sector is a significant advantage
Soft skills
Excellent planning analytical interpersonal communication problem solving and organizational skills.
Selfmotivated detailoriented maintain a high level of accuracy and a strong service orientation.
Ability to handle multiple tasks within deadlines and deliver on commitments.
Ability to communicate clearly and diplomatically with a wide range of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
Languages
Excellent command of spoken and written English
Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language would be a plus
