Job Description

Summary: The Spiritual Life Graduate Assistant will work as a key member of the spiritual life team assisting the chaplain with educational programming service opportunities and logistics for chapel travel experiences. The GA position will be 20 hours per week reporting directly to the chaplain.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Learn and assist in the planning implementation and evaluation of key Belk Chapel programs and gatherings
  • Learn and oversee marketing material for chapel programs events and service opportunities throughout the year
  • Learn and oversee the management of spiritual life event planning and booking pertaining to the chaplains office
  • Learn and coordinate communication of diverse religious observances throughout the year
  • Learn and assist in greeting students and other guests to Belk Chapel utilizing skills of hospitality that embrace religious spiritual and secular diversity
  • Learn and assist in creating qualitative and quantitative surveys of student experiences in chapel events and programing
  • Learn and assist in updating the Spiritual Life website in liaison with the chaplain
  • Learn and assist with monitoring and coordination of the Davies Fellowship initiative
  • Learn and provide a monthly Spiritual Life report
  • Learn and develop leadership skills in the pluralistic work of the spiritual life team on campus
  • Learn and assist in the planning of chapel trips
  • Other duties as assigned by the chaplain

Experience Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Enrolled in a Graduate program in Charlotte
  • Engagement with spiritual life as an undergraduate student
  • Aligns with the core understanding of pluralism and interfaith bridgebuilding in which all students are encouraged to be nourished in the wells of their faith/religious/spiritual traditions while engaging intentionally in service with others in the process of building strong campus community
  • Skills in communication social media Canva and Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Possess organizational leadership skills and the ability to work effectively within teams
  • Ability to maintain a disciplined work schedule
  • Easily approachable friendly and able to establish and maintain strong rapport with students
  • Ability to use discretion and exercise good judgment considering the confidentiality paradigm of the chaplains work

Livein Potential

  • Graduate Assistants within Student Affairs are the first considered for the fouremergency response graduate support positions that are livein. These positions are selected separately by Residence Life. The Emergency Response Graduate Support Positions will be expected to be available during emergency situations on campus (inclement weather etc.) and participate in an oncall rotation to respond to afterhours emergencies. This is an additional responsibility above and beyond your graduate assistantship and thus is treated separately. Oncampus housing is provided for free in return for the duties as part of this separate role. Oncampus housing includes a onebedroom furnished apartment including water electricity internet and free onsite laundry. Livein Graduate Assistants also receive an increased campus dining plan and thus receive (10 meals/week and $450 Lions dollars per year). Oncampus housing is pet and partner friendly.

Renumeration

  • Graduate Assistants are eligible for 2 tuitionfree graduate courses per academic semester including summer if actively serving in the graduate assistant role. IMPORTANT: No tuition remission is available for Cybersecurity Management courses.
  • Graduate Assistants for Student Affairs are provided with a campusdining plan during the academic year (5 meals/week) and free membership to the Levine Fitness Center.
  • Graduate Assistants are eligible for free oncampus parking.
  • Graduate Assistants enjoy flexible scheduling. Time away to be coordinated with immediate supervisor.
  • Graduate Assistants may be employed outside of Queens for part time work as agreed upon with their supervisor so long as it does not interfere with the core learnings of this position.
