Description

Job Summary:

Methodist University is seeking to hire a Director of Ultrasound Education for its new School of Medicine in Fayetteville NC. The Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine is an LCME candidate program with an anticipated start date of Summer 2026 for its charter class. Our mission is to prepare our graduates to be socially accountable communityengaged evidencebased compassionate equityfocused physician leaders who will contribute to mitigating health disparities and improving health outcomes in southeastern NC or wherever they may practice. The Director of Ultrasound Education is part of the Academic Affairs office and reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Skills Education. We seek an experienced creative forwardthinking studentfocused ultrasound educator to design develop deliver and evaluate the pointofcareultrasound (POCUS) curriculum for learners throughout undergraduate and graduate medical education programs. This position requires expertise in sonography medical education curriculum delivery assessment and the ability to work collaboratively in a team. This is a fulltime position which may be shared between undergraduate (UME) and graduate medical education (GME) training programs.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Develop longitudinal and specialtyspecific pointofcareultrasound curricula:

Cultivate relationships with foundational science and clinical faculty members to collaboratively integrate POCUS into educational programs.

Engage with community stakeholders including interprofessional partners in POCUS educational initiatives.

Provide subject content expertise to design and develop effective highquality POCUS educational content that aligns with best practices accreditation standards and institutional goals.

Develop excellence tracks and opportunities to foster student success in sonography (POCUS club POCUS certification scholarly concentration etc.).

2. Deliver POCUS Educational Content:

Collaborate with foundational science and clinical faculty members to develop POCUS educational goals and learning objectives.

Prepare ultrasound didactic content to span the undergraduate medical education curriculum (MS1MS4).

Collaborate with program directors and residency faculty to develop GME POCUS educational programs.

Oversee ultrasound scanning labs to teach image acquisition and interpretation skills.

Promote the clinical application of POCUS.

Collaborate with clinical faculty to develop ultrasound procedure labs and interprofessional learning activities.

3. Assessment and Evaluation:

Collaborate with MCFV assessment specialists to develop and administer assessment tools to measure learning outcomes and program effectiveness.

4. Educational Technology Integration:

Implement technology into instructional design including the use of ultrasound simulators and artificial intelligence (AI).

Identify and integrate appropriate educational technologies to enhance the learning experience.

Proactively research emerging technologies to meet evolving teaching and learning demands.

5. Faculty Development:

Engage in professional development activities both internally and externally to facilitate advancement in knowledge and skills.

Engage in scholarly activity to promote best practices and continual process improvement in POCUS education.

Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs & Faculty Development to provide professional education to MCFV faculty.

Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Research to provide support for ultrasound research and quality improvement projects.

Qualifications

Sonographer with Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS) Certification or Clinician (MD DO APP) or Health Sciences professional (PhD MS) with terminal degree and demonstrated expertise in sonography.

Preferred Masters or Doctorate Degree in Education.

Preferred knowledge of learnercentered instructional design principles curriculum development and adult learning theories.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fastpaced dynamic environment.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor others and oversee multiple complex course development projects coordinate crossdepartmental teams and ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.

Excellent communication skills with a focus on building strong partnerships with faculty content experts and university leaders to ensure alignment of learning content with program goals.
