Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Director of Elvaluation and Special Services

Reports to: Executive Director of Special Services

Dept/School: Special Services

Pay Grade: Adminstrative Professional PG 6

Wage/Status: Exempt

Days: 240

Primary Purpose:

Assist the executive director of special services to ensure the provision of required services for students with disabilities provide leadership coordination and supper all aspects of the special education appraisal services and ensure compliance with all local state and federal requirements.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university
  • Special education certification or license preferred Educational Diagnostician or School Psychologist

Preferred Experience:

  • Minimum of 35 years experience in teaching or assessment in special education
  • Previous campus or districtwide leadership experience preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience with ARD facilitation and conducting special education evaluations
  • Effective communication public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act)
  • Knowledge of individual evaluation procedures
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to interpret policy procedures and data.
  • Ability to coordinate district function.
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel.
  • Strong organization skills
  • Understanding of the individual needs to students with disabilities.



Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide leadership in the identification evaluation and provision of special education and related services for students with disabilities.
  • Provide leadership and direction to district administrators assessment personnel counseling staff and instructional staff as needed to address behavioral and educational needs of identified students.
  • Train and assist evaluation staff in the provision of behavioral and educational recommendations based on psychological assessment to be addressed by the ARD committee during the development of students Individual Education Plan.
  • Assume responsibility for Child Find activities.
  • Monitor district progress on state and federal accountability measures providing technical assistance and training for continuous improvement in needed areas.
  • Develop and oversee ongoing professional learning opportunities for all special education assessment staff and related services personnel.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment available to students with disabilities.
  • Assist executive director in ensuring that rules and procedures for the discipline of special education students are effective and conform to federal and state laws.
  • Participate as a member of campus Student Success Teams Admission Review or Dismissal Committees and or 504 committee meetings as requested.
  • Interface with campus/district personnel to design systemic prevention and intervention programs.
  • Supervise and mentor psychological interns and LSSP interns/trainees as needed.
  • Consult with the district and campus staff regarding management of student behavior according to IEP and SST plans.
  • Implement and monitor compliance with federal and state rules and regulations.
  • Assist executive director with the development maintenance and revision of the districts operating guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with staff students parents and the community.
  • Resolve conflict with administrators parents teachers staff and/or community.
  • Work cooperatively with others in developing the mission and articulating the vision for the school/district program.
  • Participate in the recruitment screening recommendation and orientation of faculty and staff as appropriate.
  • Supervise jointly develop professional learning opportunities and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Assist executive director in ensuring that federal and state laws and regulations concerning the education of students with disabilities are observed.
  • Advise executive director to ensure that support services for students with disabilities are effective in achieving their objectives.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the districts mission as it is communicated to the public.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and community members.
  • Participate in professional organizations; disseminate ideas and information to others.
  • Assist executive director in identifying trends and opportunities as well as solving problems dealing with the identification and evaluation of students with disabilities.
  • Perform duties in a professional ethical and responsible manner. Participate in professional learning and training programs.
  • Actively seek and use evaluative feedback from peers subordinates and superordinate regarding performance.
  • Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.
  • Account for the accuracy and verification of all student program data and reports.
  • Implement datadriven decision making for improvement efforts based on best practices.
  • Manage and utilize policy effectively for maintaining systemic processes and practices.
  • Account for the verification of the correct policy regarding all decisions and correspondence.
  • Implement effective policydriven decision making.
  • Stay uptodate professionally through the selection of quality professional learning opportunities for personal growth.
  • Research district policy precedent and current practices prior to taking action.
  • Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district department and content goals.
  • Demonstrates proficient levels of technology applications.
  • Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  • Maintain punctuality in daily work times appointments and meetings.
  • Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  • Maintain friendly customerservicedriven interactions with all stakeholders students teachers administrators and coworkers.
  • Work cooperatively with coworkers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  • Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email written and verbal).
  • Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.

Regularly sit talk or hear; frequently required to use hands to finger handle or feel; frequent repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; occasionally lift and/or move up to 1050 pounds; occasionally required to stand walk reach with hands and arms; vision abilities include close vision; and color vision regularly work with frequent interruptions maintain emotional control under stress; the noise level is usually moderate. The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Predictable and regular attendance expected.
