Primary Purpose:
Support all students in career exploration planning and readiness by providing personalized career and academic guidance aligned with CTE pathways and local workforce needs. Facilitate a successful transition of high school students to postsecondary or the workforce. Assist campus and district staff in all initiatives related to career and college preparation.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelors Degree
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of career and college planning tools and CTE programs
Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
Skilled in working with computer tools software email and Internet
Experience:
One year working with high school students
Experience working with students in a counseling or advisory role
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Career and College Planning & Preparation
- Assist students in identifying career interests and aligning them with high school coursework CTE programs postsecondary options and labor market trends.
- Support campus in ensuring all students have created accounts and are using district approved career exploration tools.
- Lead group sessions and parent nights on collegerelated issues such as writing essays getting recommendations preparing for tests applying for financial aid and planning for careers.
- Host career awareness events with representatives from a variety of educational institutions: local community colleges technical schools large public universities and smaller private liberal arts colleges.
- Oversee all local scholarship opportunities and work with campus staff to ensure information is shared through appropriate methods.
- Organize college visits career connection events and other related opportunities to expose students to options.
- Ensure all students especially those from underrepresented or special populations have equitable access to career and college advising and CTE opportunities.
Consultation
- Provide career advisement for students by providing personal interest assessments career identification and planning job readiness assessment job coaching and job search training through individual appointments and walk in sessions.
- Work with school and community personnel to bring together resources for students.
- Implement strategies for promoting opportunities for CTE students to earn postsecondary credit and encourage student completion of college degrees and/or postsecondary certificates.
- Collaborate with CTE instructors and counselors to ensure students understand career pathways and associated credentials or certifications.
- Maintain a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information to other professionals as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals and representatives of community resources.
Assessment
- Participate in the planning facilitation and/or evaluation of collegerelated and careerrelated testing.
- Work with counseling staff as needed to interpret appropriate tests and appraisal results and communicate to school personnel students and parents.
- Maintain the confidentiality of student assessment.
Program Management
- Support underachieving students through success in college and careerrelated preparatory classes.
- Maintain career services office and Internet web page with current resources.
- Develop organize and promote careerrelated events on campus and in the community.
Administration
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rules board policies and all CTE related compliance data.
- Comply with all district and campus regulations.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues students and parents.
Professional
- Adhere to the ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional and responsible.
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Responsible for properly maintaining district records adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records management and retention.
