About the role

Our Centre for Womens Childrens and Family Health provide a range of programs such as counselling groups and case management supports. Removing barriers to accessing services is a passion for us and as such we also offer our Connected Kids Childcare service which provides child centred care for children whilst their mothers access services at the centre.

As our Child Development Specialist you will provide trauma responsive and child centred care to children 12 years and under whilst their parents are accessing other services at the centre. This role has a key focus on social and emotional development and supporting children to feel safe and secure to explore their environment whilst they are in the service. You will join our multidisciplinary team including Counsellors case workers and social workers that are driven to work collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for women and children.

Duties

  • Provide trauma responsive child led play experiences alongside predictable consistent and responsive care giving.
  • Document all case notes in our Client Data Management system within policy requirements.
  • Implement and support child and parent/care giver groups and programs.
  • Liase with multi disciplinary team around care and developmental needs of children accessing the service.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum diploma level early childhood/education and care qualifications.
  • Minimum 3 or more years demonstrated experience in providing responsive child care services.
  • Current First Aid certificate.
  • Deep and complex understanding of child development and the impacts of trauma.
  • Solid and demonstrated understanding of attachment and the impacts of attachment disruption.
  • Preferable experience in supporting children who have experienced trauma including domestic and family violence and disrupted attachment.
