Job Description

Job Title: Director of Fine Arts Media and Marketing

(Pending Approval of theCompensation Plan)

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Department: Superintendent

Reports To: Superintendent

Approved By: Board of Trustees

SUMMARY:

The Director of Fine Arts Media and Marketing is a multifaceted leadership role that combines creative vision with strategic marketing. This individual oversees the districts fine arts programs Public Relations department and drives the marketing goals of the district. They work with our public relations team to ensure a cohesive brand image and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. Direct and manage the overall program of fine arts (i.e. visual art band choir theatre arts and dance) for the district. Provide students with opportunities to participate in extracurricular fine arts activities and ensure compliance with all state University Interscholastic League (UIL) and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve district region and state recognition.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Bachelors degree in fine arts media marketing or a related field

Masters Degree preferred

EXPERIENCE:

Five years experience in leadership in related fields

At least three years of campus administrative experience preferred

CERTIFICATES LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Texas Teaching Certificate preferred

Texas Principal Certification preferred

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong communication public relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in writing editing and public speaking.
  • Thorough knowledge of media relations and public relations functions.
  • Ability to develop a marketing plan for Donna ISD.
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel.
  • Knowledge of fine arts programming and implementation of state curriculum for the arts.
  • Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing fine arts programs.
  • Ability to interpret policy procedures and data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Public Information

  1. Provide guidance to district personnel related to media relations.
  2. Attend all School Board Meetings.
  3. Serve as district representative on community committees as required.
  4. Ensure that public information activities contribute to the attainment of district goals and objectives.
  5. Maintain district press clipping files.
  6. Keep informed of developing communication trends and techniques.
  7. Provide support to the superintendent at public functions.
  8. Demonstrate awareness of districtcommunity needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.

Media Relations

  1. Analyze public opinion through constant monitoring of the media.
  2. Organize media campaigns through the use of press conferences media interviews and other public events.
  3. Write media releases speeches and other related material.
  4. Answer media inquiries and serve as district spokesperson.
  5. Proactively manage issues that have the potential to generate negative press coverage.
  6. Provide counsel to the superintendent and other key personnel on appropriate media responses or public statements.

Fine Arts Program Planning & Instruction

  1. Provide needed support to direct Donna ISD fine arts programming.
  2. Establish performance requirements enforce academic requirements and verify each students eligibility to participate in fine arts programs.
  3. Provide for participation at extracurricular events including but not limited to concerts football games pep rallies parades and UIL activities.
  4. Comply with federal and state laws State Board of Education rule UIL rules and board policy in the fine arts area.
  5. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
  6. Recommend policies to improve program.
  7. Ensure planning and appropriate use of instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  8. Help teachers create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.

Budget and Inventory

  1. Ensure that programs are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
  2. Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  3. Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within department.

Communication

  1. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents students principals and teachers.
  2. Maintain professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members.

Personnel Management

  1. Assist with recruitment selection training supervision and evaluation of media and public relations team and fine arts instructors.

Crisis Management

  1. Serve on the districts Crisis Management Team.
  2. Serve in the Crisis Management Team.
  3. Assist the Crisis Management Coordinator in presentations related to the Crisis Management Plan.

Other

Maintain confidentiality.

Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.

Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and appointments.

Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and evaluates assigned personnel via TTESS.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit occasionally walk and stand talk or hear and travel from one building to another or to other sites. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Light to moderate lifting is required.

Some driving is required as the employee is required to travel from building to building or to other sites. This position requires meeting deadlines with severe constraints interacting with the public and staff and enduring irregular or extended work hours.

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is quiet to loud and varies depending upon the site and the activity being conducted. The employee works both indoors and outdoors and is exposed to sun heat cold and inclement weather.
