The Opportunity:
The Residential Education Director is a fulltime 10.5 month livein professional appointment overseeing the management of a residence hall community of 145 600 residents. Depending on hall assignment responsibilities include but are not limited to: supervision of paraprofessional staff administration of special programs (academic initiatives theme and living learning community hall programming Honors programs etc.) adjudicating housing policy/contract violations personal counseling programming budget development and management community development hall government advising crisis management and conflict resolution committee work collateral assignments within the Student Affairs as well as emergency oncall responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelors degree and two (2) academic years of relevant residence hall leadership paraprofessional or group living experience and demonstrated experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. One (1) year of experience may be substituted by a Masters degree in College Student Personnel/Higher Education Administration/Counseling Psychology or a related field.
Must be willing and able to keep regular hours and work some evenings and weekends.
Must be certified or be able to complete Red Cross FirstAid and CPR certification within 1 month of hire.
Must be willing and able to live in the assigned residence hall and respond to afterhours emergencies as needed. Due to the requirement to live on campus this position is exempt from the Washington Minimum Wage Act in accordance with Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 49.46.010(3)(j).
Preferred Qualifications:
A Masters degree completed or in progress in College Student Personnel/Higher Education Administration/Counseling Psychology or a related field.
Professional or graduate assistantship experience in Housing & Residence Life or Student Affairs with a background in supervising and advising student positions and groups.
Experience in staff selection and hiring.
Experience in the administrative functions of a residence hall including budgeting programming and residential engagement tracking.
Proficient in occupancy management through housing software and processes with proven ability to effectively chair or contribute to committees and group initiatives.
Experience in mediation and conflict resolution working collaboratively with students and administrators in diverse situations with a strong focus on student development and academic success.
Skilled in supporting firstyear student populations as well as creating and assessing residential education initiatives and fostering Living Learning Communities (LLCs).
Experiencein conduct adjudication and hearings regarding housing and residential life policy including crisis response and serving oncall for a building or campus community
Proven ability to work with diverse student and staff populations with a strong commitment to advocating for diversity and social justice supported by experience in programming presentations research and education on related issues.
Skilled in coordinating planning implementing departmental training and collaborative programming with campus partners.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position. This is a Temporary position.
Temporary End Date:
This is a temporary position with an expected start date of July 7 2025 and expected end date of May 22 2026. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

This position has been designated by the department to require a background check because it requires access to children or vulnerable adults as defined byRCW 74.34 engages in law enforcement requires security clearance interacts with WSU students in a counseling or advising capacity has access to personal identifying and/or financial information unsupervised access to university buildings/property or other businessrelated need.
