The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for the position ofSafety Officer Ifor the Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS) in Raleigh. GMS is a residential school responsible for providing educational instruction to visually impaired students in grades K12 from across North Carolina. In addition to the School the Campus houses a Wake County Public Schools program and several State agencies.
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure a safe secure and healthy environment for the students staff and visitors on the Campus. The position will plan and administer an institutionwide safety and security program and establish and maintain a safe and secure work and living environment for staff students and residents. This position is twofold Safety and Security. As the Safety and Security Manager you will provide basic Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Training for staff of the school; identify safety/health/security issues and work with appropriate agencies/personnel to resolve the issue; plan and conduct fire lockdown and other drills; in collaboration with appropriate individuals/agencies develop communicate and implement a plan of action when an emergency arises. This position serves as the key liaison for all emergency services (State Capital Police Wake County Fire and EMS and others). In addition this position serves as part of the Business and Finance department and may also manage the Schools Fixed Assets Inventory including surplus of items when needed; assist in managing the schools vehicles including activity buses; The Safety and Security Manager will work closely with the maintenance department to ensure alignment on hazard management materials safety and camswide risk mitigation and collaborate on housekeeping safety protocols emergency preparedness and facilities inspections. Additionally the safety and Security Manager may contribute to campus capital improvement projects by providing input on security infrastructure and compliance with safety regulations.

Bachelors degree with a major in safety management occupational safety industrial technology one of the physical sciences from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of one year of progressive occupational and safety and health experience;

an equivalent combination of education and experience.
