Job Description

The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West Great South Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including: GP Clinics Primary Health Care Counselling NDIS and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

The SWAMS is dedicated to enhancing employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This position is designated under Section 50 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA) and as such only Aboriginal people are eligible to apply.

About the role

This position develops implements promotes monitors and evaluates culturally appropriate mental health and wellbeing programs and strategies for SWAMS staff and curates an environment which supports these. The role works to deliver evidenceinformed proactive culturally sensitive activities and initiatives that increase mental health wellbeing and cultural awareness in the workplace.

  • Plan and conduct internal cultural and wellbeing events
  • Plan annual staff recognition event
  • Reporting on contract deliverables
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders
  • Reasearch wellbeing and cultural initiatives to be used at SWAMS
  • Research develop and promote staff initiatives such as salary packaging
  • Provides support to and collaborates with other team members to develop deliver and analyse programs

About you

Essential Aspects

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent under section 50(d) Equal Opportunity Act.
  • Must reside in the South West and have local knowledge about the community.
  • Ability to take direction determine priorities and manage workloads in order to meet agreed timelines and objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience assisting in the development of community projects.
  • Good interpersonal written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to drive to outreach to the Greater Bunbury and South West regions.
