Standard Work Hours: Mon Fri 7:45 am 4:00 pm 36.25 hours per week (Summer Hours)

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Occasional evening and weekend work as needed.

Salary Range: $53023 $68930 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to Manager Student Success the Coordinator Writing and Study Skills plays a key role on the writing and study skills team within the Student Success department of Student Affairs & Services and is committed to fostering student success satisfaction persistence and retention. This role is responsible for creating educational resources and collaborating with faculty to align support with course requirements while also ensuring students receive highquality academic support in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

  • Help students identify and overcome writing communication and study skills challenges to support their academic success.
  • Provide individual and group tutoring sessions.
  • Interpret assignments and writing style guides to assist students effectively.
  • Ensure each student receives effective support leading to measurable improvements in their academic performance.
  • Create educational resources to enhance student learning.
  • Work closely with faculty to align services understand course requirements and identify student skills gaps.
  • Identify common writing and academic readiness challenges among students and design programs and services that address these issues.
  • Assess student needs and track progress over time to ensure interventions were successful.
  • Ensure that the writing and study skills program evolves to meet the needs of contemporary students.
  • Design program and service assessments track efficacy and prepare reports.
  • Manage tutor inventory.
  • Maintain student records and manage databases and case management systems.
  • Stay current with research and trends in student success and academic support.
  • Manage daytoday expenditures within approved budget.
  • Work with Manager Student Success to prepare annual budget submission and to prepare and submit funding proposals.
  • Hire train and supervise parttime staff and peer tutors.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and professional development for parttime staff.
  • Develop strategies to increase student awareness of the centre and encourage service utilization.
  • Create promotional materials and host information sessions.
  • Maintain and update online resources including the university website and social media.
  • Represent the Centre at university events and initiatives.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Masters degree in a discipline where writing and communication are emphasized.
  • Minimum of two years of experience teaching writing and student academic skills to adults.

Additional Strengths

  • Supervisory experience is a strong asset.
  • Thorough understanding of the UNB community.
  • Good working knowledge of computer hardware and software including the full suite of Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Extensive working knowledge of universitylevel learning skills related to reading writing critical thinking and selfmanagement.
  • High level of accountability and excellent judgment decision making and organizational skills.
  • Strength in managing multiple priorities and complex tasks.
  • Ability to connect naturally with a wide variety of people foster collaborative relationships and contribute to a positive working environment.
  • Experience in independently researching gathering & analyzing data summarizing creating reports & recommending solutions.
  • Naturally curious and collaborative professional with an interest in trying new ways of doing things adopting new technologies continuous improvement and lifelong learning.
