Hume City Council is one of Australias fastest growing and culturally diverse councils. Hume City Council is an approved provider and Early Years Manager of 34 early years services that includes kindergartens long day care and occasional care.

You will work in a collaborative team of Early Childhood professionals to support the growth learning and development of children in play based indoor/outdoor programs. You will develop and implement innovative childrens educational programs in collaboration with staff families and children. This will include planning implementing and evaluating programs for children and creating inclusive secure and interactive learning environments. Sound knowledge of current theory in practice pedagogy and contemporary early years reforms will compliment Councils Early Years team.

What youll be doing:

  • Undertake all responsibilities and activities associated with being a person in day to day charge to manage the service in accordance with the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010 Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011.
  • Act in accordance with the authority delegated by Council in dealing with situations of an urgent nature requiring immediate action ensuring compliance with the Act and the Regulations.
  • Operate within the requirements of Councils policies and procedures funding and all regulatory requirements and service budget allocation.
  • Develop in consultation with service staff families and children a program that brings together philosophies childrens ideas interests and uses integrated teaching and learning approaches to scaffold and extend childrens learning which encourages them to be active participants in their own learning.
  • Develop implement and display in conjunction with the team the educational program that is developmentally and culturally appropriate and is reflective of an ongoing cycle of planning which involves observation gathering and interpretation of information to inform the preparation of environments and experiences to engage children in meaningful learning opportunities.
  • Develop a professional collaborative relationship and inclusive partnership with early childhood colleagues to ensure opportunities for childrens learning and development is continued encourages communication promotes shared learning and makes learning visible to children educators and their families.
  • Provide an environment that supports familycentred practice encourages and recognises individual family needs relationships and cultural backgrounds and provides a welcoming atmosphere including orientation for new families and children.

The skills and experience youll bring to the role:

  • Maintain an understanding of Early Childhood governance related policies and guidance including Early Childhood Australias Code of Ethics United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply the standards and regulations of the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010 Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011 and Early Years Learning Framework / Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including an ability to communicate effectively gain cooperation and work collaboratively with parents other staff and the leadership team.
  • Sound knowledge of the Child Safe Standards Mandatory Reporting and Reportable Conduct.
  • Display a willingness to improvements in pedagogy and practice and take part in continuous improvement and contribute to the Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Ability to use initiative and professional judgement in complex situations and to work sensitively with cultural social emotional and economic issues of the children and their families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively cooperatively and effectively within a team to achieve a common goal.
  • Ability to develop relationships and partnership approaches with families to promote shared learning and collaboration to support childrens learning.
  • Positively engage with all children
  • Be decisive proactive and have the ability to problem solve.

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

  • Qualifications recognised under the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010 and the Department of Education and Training Victorian Kindergarten Funding Guide.
  • Employee Working with Childrens Check which demonstrates suitability for employment in a childrens service.
  • Hold suitable First Aid CPR Anaphylaxis and Asthma training that complies with the requirements under the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010.
  • Current Mandatory Reporting Training
