JOB SUMMARY

The Student Support Preschool Assistant Early ChildhoodAssistant assists in planning organizing and delivering a program of daily activities for children ages 3-5 years; assists in supervising and monitoring the children; conveys and/or receives information; maintains a clean and safe classroom environment for the children; and ensures compliance with established policy regulations.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. High school diploma or a recognized equivalent
  2. Hold or obtain a CPR/First Aid Certificate/ Utah Food Handler Certificate within 30 days of employment
  3. Speak read write and present professionally analyze and interpret English written and verbal communications
  4. Adaptability and understanding of cultural differences while working in a diverse environment
  5. Consistently maintained composure and patience in challenging situations
  6. Flexibility to handle changing work priorities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are examples of skills and experience that the best qualified candidates may have. Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.

  1. Prior experience working with children under 5 years of age
  2. Spanish or other language proficiency including ability to read write speak and understand
  3. Knowledge of child development and ability to identify and adapt directives to students of all ages

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in maintaining a well-managed classroom with minimal supervision (e.g. set-up clean-up wiping & sanitizing counters etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe healthy and positive learning environment
  2. Assist in supervising children for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment
  3. Assist in administering first aid if certified as assigned (e.g. scrapes bruises etc.) for the purpose of meeting their immediate health care needs
  4. Assist in developing and implementing daily activities for the purpose of supporting the program in meeting the needs of the children
  5. Assist in delivering assigned age-appropriate program activities and positive reinforcement (e.g. daily activities reading stories art painting singing games painting playground activities etc.) for the purpose of providing for the developmental growth of the students
  6. Assist with food and snack preparation if certified for the purpose of meeting the needs of the children
  7. Promote good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of childrens outcome and encouraging childrens development (e.g. demonstrating good hygiene techniques communication etc.)
  8. Provide support with basic care needs when needed including (e.g. toileting or changing clothes etc.)
  9. Perform record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. attendance food service records anecdotal records accident reports etc.)
  10. Report observations and incidents to appropriate instructional and administrative personnel
  11. Work as part of a team in a collaborative environment for the purpose of fostering positive working relationships and a safe and positive learning environment. Assist other personnel as needed
  12. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform duties
  13. Participate in various meetings and workshops to receive and convey information
  14. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
  15. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling some stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting 30% walking and 40% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
