SUMMARY
In alignment with the districts mission to ensure academic excellence cultivate belonging and inspire futureready learners the Multilingual Learner (ML) Specialist Secondary Focus is a critical leader in supporting multilingual students in grades 612. This role is designed to ensure multilingual learners feel safe seen and heard while building the skills and confidence to graduate on time and pursue their chosen T24 pathwaytechnical school 2year college or 4year university.
The ML Specialist works collaboratively to remove barriers foster belonging and promote high expectations. By coaching educators collaborating with families and directly supporting students the specialist helps cultivate a culture of excellence and ensures every multilingual student is equipped with the tools to thrive in high school and beyond.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
- Additional secondary level endorsement in a core subject area preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with English Language Learner (ELL) Endorsement.
- Successful secondary teaching and/or coaching experience in multilingual student support settings.
- Deep knowledge of Washington WIDA Standards and assessments including teacher best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to plan deliver and reflect on lesson plans and professional development design and delivery.
- Understanding of Federal Title III identification and program guidelines.
- Working knowledge of graduation pathways options credit progression and requirements and T24 transition planning.
- Experience integrating language development within content instruction.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity inclusion and culturally responsive practices.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative support mindset.
- Technologically competent; comfortable using and assisting others in using digital tools to support instruction and data analysis.
- Willing to engage in relevant professional development around AI and other tools to enhance learning and access to translation for students and families.
- Reliable transportation for travel across district secondary sites and to support family engagement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with educators and counselors to increase the number of multilingual students graduating on time and on track in their 9th grade year.
- Provide inclusive and targeted instruction aligned with WIDA and content state standards supporting multilingual learners growth in all four domains: listening speaking reading and writing.
- Design and deliver instruction that builds multilingual students capacity to be flexible selfadvocating and communityminded.
- Embed culturally responsive and sustaining practices that promote a profound sense of belonging and engagement in the school community.
- Support high expectations through rigorous meaningful learning experiences that connect classroom learning to future goals.
- Coach staff on strategies such as GLAD SIOP WIDA and UDL to better support language acquisition and access to core content.
- Collaborate with high school PLC teams to ensure ML students have equitable access to graduation pathways dual credit CTE programs and T24 readiness opportunities.
- Utilize WIDA Screener and ACCESS to identify students guide instruction and monitor growth.
- Assist with state assessment accommodation when needed.
- Design and deliver instructional PD for teachers that helps them support and build multilingual students confidence and capacity as language learners within their school community.
- Serve as a liaison between school teams and families helping students feel seen heard and supported in both school and home environments.
- Lead and/or participate in family engagement efforts including multilingual information sessions on high school and beyond planning FAFSA/WASFA college applications and careerconnected learning.
- Encourage engagement in afterschool programs activities and sports by providing information and supporting registration if needed
- Supervise and guide Paraeducators to ensure effective student support
- Advocate for multilingual learners through datainformed decisions inclusive team practices and crossdepartmental collaboration

WORKING CONDITIONS
Flexible hours required; this position will require attendance at evening parent/family engagement activities and home visits. Must have reliable transportation. Travel between schools is required. Work is performed in an office setting inside a school building with and without students present. Work requires regular use of a computer telephone and office equipment including and not limited to copiers faxes printers audiovisual equipment and filing cabinets.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach above and below their shoulders and bend/twist at the waist. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and work yearare determined by thenegotiated agreement and the needs of the District.
Verification of identity and United States work authorizationmust becompleted before employment commences. The successful candidate for thispositionmust complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Employment is contingent upon clearance of the background check.
