Description

Background
The Communication Coordinator will provide direct support to the NRC Ukraine Country Office in the implementation of NRCs internal and external communication initiatives. In particular he/she will be responsible for collecting drafting and editing communication materials in collaboration with other functions of the Country Office and NRCs area offices.


1. Role and responsibilities
Generic responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of NRC Ukraines Communications Strategy based on the Country Advocacy Strategy and in line with programmatic priorities and NRCs Global Communications Strategy.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in NRC Ukraine in particular the grants management unit to develop and monitor a communications action plan that reflects use of a variety of different communications vehicles (photos case studies online platforms infographics videos etc) and meets obligations and commitments with NRC Ukraines donors.
  • Undertake regular travel to NRC program locations to gather content relating to NRC programs and support program staff with communicationsrelated activities.
  • Support all programs teams with the development of visibility materials ensuring these are developed in compliance with NRC and donor guidelines.
  • Work closely with media and communications colleagues at the global level to develop coordinate and refine communications materials.
  • Support NRC Ukraines internal communications systems.
  • Liaise professionally and efficiently with national and international journalists.
  • Oversee NRC Ukraines media and social media outputs in coordination with NRC global teams.
  • Build the technical expertise and capacity of NRC Ukraines media and communications department including by developing communicationsrelated tools templates or SOPs as required.
  • Compliance and adherence to NRC policies guidance and procedures.

Specific responsibilities

  • Visit NRC field sites to collect communications materials for internal and external use and support NRCs programs and partners in content gathering and other communications activities.
  • Collect and upload quality photos video social media content and other materials for use in traditional and social media.
  • Respond to inquiries from national and international journalists and help facilitate interviews.
  • Provide training and onthejob support to colleagues in field sites and local partners to develop their skills in communications including taking quality photos and developing case studies spokespersons trainings donor visibility and other.
  • Work efficiently with programs teams and partners to develop visibility materials and other communications products that comply with NRC and donor guidelines.
  • Draft and develop recurrent media and communications products develop infographics or other visual materials as required.
  • Engage actively with NRC global communications teams to generate ideas polish materials and ensure NRC Ukraines communications are qualitative creative property targeted and support the implementation of the Advocacy Strategy.
  • Technical oversight of the NRC Ukraine media and comms team across Country and Area offices to ensure the coherence of NRCs activities and products.
  • Other tasks as requested by the line manager.

2. Competencies


Competencies are important in order for the employee and the organisation to deliver desired results. Competencies are relevant for all staff and are divided into the following categories:

Generic professional competencies:

  • Three to five years of experience working in media and communications (experience in journalism or with (i)NGOs/UN agencies would be an asset).
  • Thorough knowledge and experience managing social media accounts.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience drafting material for media.
  • Experience with photography and videography including editing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups through training mentoring and other formal and nonformal methods.
  • Fluency in English both written and verbal
  • Working knowledge of Ukrainian and Russian would be an asset.
  • Analytic and computer skills including MS Office (Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint Access).

  • Proven presentation training and facilitation skills.
