Job Description:

Madison College is actively seeking a Lead Custodian to join our facilities staff at our Watertown Campus focusing on cleaning and light maintenance duties. The role is vital in ensuring a safe clean and welcoming environment for students staff and visitors.

This position involves a range of manual tasks related to custodial and campus maintenance. It requires a significant degree of effort independence and versatility in handling various campus operations including routine and special eventrelated duties.

Supervised by the Campus Operations Manager the Lead Custodian may also oversee student help temporary workers and or work study personnel. The college seeks someone who can adapt their routine to address immediate nonroutine and emergency requests aligning with the high service standards of the position.

This is a fulltime nonexempt position scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with occasional Saturday hours during the academic year (Spring and Fall semesters).

Essential Duties:

The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or allinclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Perform routine cleaning duties within the Madison College facilities and other leased or owned off campus facilities.
  • Perform routine noncleaning duties within the Madison College facilities and other leased or owned off campus facilities.
    • Perform forklift operation for deliveries and moving items where forklifts are available.
    • Perform routine maintenance on mechanical instructional materials as needed.
    • Perform grounds maintenance and upkeep duties as needed in support of ensuring safe access to facilities and maintaining appearance in support of contracted services.
  • Provide additional campus security for students faculty and staff.
  • Assist office staff with emergency procedures in emergency situations.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of basic math algebra electricity plumbing and basic maintenance procedures.
  • Familiarity with proper use of hand and small power tools associated with custodial tasks.
  • Knowledge of basic safety procedures associated with custodial and maintenance tasks. Knowledge of basic microcomputers.
  • Knowledge of small engine repair and maintenance Knowledge of chemical safety OHSA regulations bloodborne pathogens and hazardous material regulations as required for the position.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and racial backgrounds.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma GED or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • Three 3 years work experience directly related to the skills required for successfully performing the duties of this position.
