Senior Accountant is a financial professional who analyzes complex financial records oversees accounting operations and ensures compliance with accounting standards. They are responsible for preparing accurate financial statements managing internal controls and providing financial insights to support business decisions. Senior accountants also often supervise junior accountants and may assist with budgeting forecasting and tax compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Record Keeping and Analysis:
Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records preparing and analyzing financial statements and identifying discrepancies.
Accounting Operations:
Overseeing daily accounting functions including reconciling bank statements processing invoices and managing accounts payable and receivable.
Compliance and Internal Controls:
Ensuring adherence to accounting standards (GAAP) internal controls and tax regulations.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Preparing financial reports for management providing financial analysis to support decisionmaking and assisting with budgeting and forecasting.
Supervision and Training:
Supervising junior accountants providing guidance and training and delegating tasks.
Tax Compliance:
Assisting with tax returns audits and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors degree in accounting or finance with a masters degree or CPA/CMA certification often preferred.
Experience:
Typically requires 5 years of accounting experience with experience in a specific industry or with accounting software a plus.
Analytical Skills:
Strong analytical and problemsolving skills to interpret financial data and identify discrepancies.
Communication Skills:
Excellent communication skills to interact with colleagues management and external auditors.
Software Proficiency:
Proficiency in accounting software spreadsheet programs (like Excel) and other relevant tools.
Attention to Detail:
A high level of attention to detail and accuracy to ensure the integrity of financial records.
Work experience as an Accountant. Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Hands-on experience with accounting software like FreshBooks and QuickBooks. Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables.
