Job Description

The KIPP Texas Finance Team is a high performing department within our School Support Partners
(SSP). Our department consists of three teams Accounting Business Intelligence and Financial
Planning & Analysis. This role sits on the Business Intelligence Team. Business Intelligence is a highly agile team within KIPP Texas Public Schools with the purpose to rapidly increase the availability of usable relevant data to all campus and department stakeholders. Our teams focus is to equip leaders with the needed data to drive missionaligned action and best support our students.

THE OPPORTUNITY
KIPP Texas is currently seeking a smart motivated and experienced Manager to bring strong problemsolving and analytical skills to a leading charter management organization. KIPP Texas is committed to using data to drive academic financial instructional operational and talent improvement and decisionmaking. The Senior Manager Data Strategy & Analytics is critical to KIPP Texas achieving this work. This individual must be as much a people person as a numbers personcollaboration and building strong crossfunctional partnerships are necessary to be successful in this role. This position reports to the Managing Director of Business Intelligence and follows a hybrid schedule (coming to our SSP office in Houston 3 days a week; and work from home 2 days a week). This role is expected to travel to other regions and/or sites 510 of the year.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Strategy
With the Managing Director of Business Intelligence sets vision for analytics research and evaluation for short and longterm work using Power BI
With input from key stakeholders supports in transitioning our reporting from Tableau to Power BI
Collaborates and supports our data customers especially Academics Operations and Talent Teams
Ensures work between the Data Systems team and the Analytics team is collaborative
Regularly assesses and improves systems to reflect best practices and proactively communicates improvements to relevant stakeholders
Monitors organizationwide data usage and anticipates future data needs based on organizational priorities and initiatives
Translates data strategy into plans to achieve goals including through system performance
management

Data Reporting
Lead accountability reporting to major stakeholders including our Academics Department Team Texas Chiefs (T2 and School Management Team (Regional Superintendents Heads of Schools etc.
Provide projections and predictions to inform our leadership teams

Execute adhoc analysis requests and serve as a strategic partner by resolving enduser questions in a timely friendly and proactive manner via our data tickets
Develop and provide training to leadership and key stakeholders on the use manipulation and analysis of interactive data visualizations in Power BI
Support in delivering data analysis and insights from complex data sets that enable us to drive strategic priorities

Advancement of a DataDriven Culture
Supports management team to make data analysis part of all decisionmaking and continuous improvement
Leads department to provide timely actionable data
With report owners develop plan to increase end users ability to use data to inform decisions
Provides thoughtpartnership and strategy with key stakeholders around data with a heavy focus on academic readiness operational excellence and talent
Manages documentation of agreements with external organizations regarding student data
Experience planning and executing datadriven projects across multiple departments and/or teams demonstrating:
Resourcefulness and strong problemsolving skills
Strong organization skills and attention to detail
Flexibility including the ability to adjust to requirements in a dynamic work environment
Ability to gather information to interpret and articulate the needs of staff and team members

Data Analysis & Visualization
Design build and iterate tools and processes that help our organization to make equitable decisions (Note: In general these tools and processes are created in Power BI)
Work directly with school administration and organizational leadership across all of our regions (Austin DallasFort Worth Houston and San Antonio) to ensure tools and processes meet the needs of our endusers
Test validate and evaluate data visualizations for accuracy performance and alignment with organization priorities and determine the best data visualization methods to present information
Collaborate with the Analytics Team to scope enduser requirements and project plan for advanced interactive and dynamic data visualizations to meet functional needs
Contribute to our internal teams knowledge management systems documentation practices and code review process to ensure that we build and maintain infrastructure sustainably


Qualifications :

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

A passion for being part of a teamoriented missiondriven culture and a commitment for the students we educate

Experience managing a team and collaborating with crossfunctional stakeholders

Analytics experience preferably at a school system or nonprofit for 4 years

Superior quantitative and technical skills

  • Experience with data reporting tools including Tableau Desktop (preferably version 2020.4.13 and Power BI (We are looking for a candidate with familiarity in both Tableau and Power BI with a stronger emphasis on proficiency in Power BI)
  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel
  • Some experience with programming languages specifically SQL required
  • Some experience with statistical software with a strong preference towards R though others are acceptable (e.g. Stata SPSS SAS)
  • Experience cleaning validating and manipulating large datasets

Strong written and oral communication skills
Minimum Bachelors degree
