Job Description

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Nursing Director for the Broward Addiction Recovery Center (BARC)

General Description
Organizes directs and supervises the nursing staff and nursing functions at both of Broward Addiction Recoverys residential programs.
Works under administrative supervision developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires an Associates degree from an accredited college or university in nursing.

Requires six 6 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the psychiatric mental health substance use disorder or behavioral health field including at least three 3 years of supervisory experience in a substance use disorder treatment agency facility or system.

Special Certifications and License

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida at the time of hire.

Current BLS certification

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Drivers License for duration of appointment.

Special Requirements

Must be available to work days/evenings/nights/weekends and holidays as needed.

Preferences

Bachelors Degree or higher in Nursing or related field
Advanced Degree in Human Services or Business related field
Registered Nurse Certification (RNC) in Addictions Behavioral Health/Psych Critical Care Medical Surgical
Certification in nonnursing Human Services related field including Florida Certification Board
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Florida
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Certified Trauma Professional
Experience with patient placement criteria in Substance Use Disorder settings
Experience with Medication Assisted Treatment Programs (MAT)
Experience with Residential Treatment Substance Use Disorder Programs
Experience with managing a nursing department within Substance Use Disorder services
Experience with administrative and business practices of a nursing department in a Substance Use Disorder treatment system

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Organizes directs and supervises the nursing staff and nursing functions at Broward Addiction Recoverys Detox in Fort Lauderdale Triage Unit in Fort Lauderdale and Residential Treatment Services in Coral Springs Florida. Ensuring that minimum staffing requirements are maintained for patient safety.

Assists the Medical Director in overseeing the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program.

Manages personnel and operating budgets.

Responsible for the quality of written and electronic nursing documentation in a totally electronic medical record; Monitors reviews and evaluates Countyfunded and contracted health services activities and expenditures; contributes to the development and management of County contracts.

Participates in Performance Improvement Committees.

Reviews and revises manuals; writes policy/procedures on patient care infection prevention pharmacy patient safety medication management and waived testing.

Monitors staffing employee issues and employee policy compliance; makes decisions about hiring/progressive discipline/termination recommendations.

Implements internal controls and a Quality Assurance management strategy to promote and ensure excellence of nursing service delivery.

Works with nursing supervisors to teach them how to deal with staff concerns and issues; educates them to improve their performance and prepare them for advancement keeping in mind legal implications best practices clinical judgment and professional standards.

Responsible for Divisions Infection Control Plan and compliance.

Participates in Broward Countys emergency management and prepares nursing staff for emergency activation in case of disasters natural or otherwise ensuring client and patient safety.

Performs related work as assigned.
