1. SUMMARY
NATOs Public Diplomacy efforts serve a vital function within the Alliance by communicating its purpose and priorities to audiences worldwide. In fulfilling this role the Public Diplomacy Division (PDD) actively strengthens NATOs public image thereby fostering trust in and support for the Alliance. The Division also acts as coordinator for strategic communication activities across all NATO civilian and military bodies and commands.
The Digital Multimedia and Brand Section is the PDD team responsible for landscape digital communication and brand management including: strategic planning campaign conception marketing and distribution of content to engage the Alliances audiences in NATO missions events operations and activities. The section comprises teams that manage respectively: content creation; campaigns and social media; and NATOs communication technology and infrastructure including NATOs broadcast operations and the NATO website.
The incumbent is an excellent content creator and a keen visual communicator who is responsible for conceiving scripting presenting and editing engaging and impactful presenterled vertical content for @NATO social media channels. The topics range from complex political issues to military exercises and capabilities.
@NATO social media channels are a critical vector for achieving the Alliances communications objectives. In this context the incumbent supports to foster dialogue with NATO and ensure our communication has the largest impact including with nonfamiliar and young audiences.
Main responsibilities include:
- Content creation: Generating innovative and engaging content ideas aligned with NATO communication strategy and the @NATO social media strategy with industry trends and with an audiencefirst approach for platforms like Instagram;
- Scripting: Writing compelling and clear scripts for presenterled social media content that is understandable to varied audiences;
- Presenting: Being the face of some of our content delivering messages in an engaging and relatable manner oncamera;
- Filming: Being able to film autonomously using a smart phone or a camera;
- Editing: Editing video content using industrystandard software to produce professional social friendly content;
- Collaboration: Working hand in hand with the social media team and closely with other stakeholders around the Alliance.
2. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL
The incumbent must:
- possess a university degree from an institute of recognised standing preferably in journalism communications marketing international affairs or related curriculum;
- have a minimum of 2 years of experience creating highly engaging content including presenterled videos in a professional setting;
- demonstrate excellent oncamera presence and presentation skills;
- demonstrate excellent creativity and have proven expertise in engaging audiences through presenterled vertical content;
- demonstrate ability to translate complex ideas into compelling social media content in line with the latest trends;
- be proficient in video editing for social media content;
- have expertise in evolving social media content trends and a strong understanding of their respective evolving technical requirements and use;
- be able to deliver content autonomously under pressure of tight deadlines;
- possess the following minimum levels of NATOs official languages (English/French): V (Advanced) in one; I (Beginner) in the other;
- be available to work outside normal office hours and to travel if required.
DESIRABLE
The following would be considered an advantage:
- international professional experience;
- keen political awareness and knowledge of current events;
- an interest and/or studies in international security issues;
- knowledge of NATOs organisational structure and affiliated organisations;
- experience in localization for segmented international audiences;
- a higher level in NATOs second language and/or knowledge of other NATO and/or partner country languages.
3. MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
Project Management
Organise and oversee all of the elements necessary to deliver projects of highest quality on time including securing all production logistics. Apply and support assessments to continue to improve the way the Division reaches different target audiences.
Information Management
Contribute to team planning and reporting. Coordinate social media content through the approval process.
Stakeholder Management
Participate in a network of contacts including internal and external information providers and key actors in the field of public diplomacy in order to ensure the correct messaging in NATO content. Work with the social media team and other stakeholders to coordinate outreach. Develop relationships with NATO and Allied digital communicators to improve our community management synergy and collaboration with a global network of social media accounts.
Expertise Development
Explore and research new methods and the evolution of media tools and social content. Evaluate the use and application of these methods in the framework of PDDs strategic objectives. Inform and advise the Divisions senior management and the social media team and the Public Diplomacy sections working in analysis and research on the use of new methods and propose improvements to existing methods. Contribute and plan for social media content for the enterprise platforms and channels in a coordinated way striving for further integration of the Divisions social media outputs. Contribute to novel ways of engaging users in NATOs story through social media.
Knowledge Management
Assist in the coordination efforts within the Section and across the Public Diplomacy Division and the Organization to ensure that appropriate knowledge management systems and mechanisms are in place.
Perform any other related duty as assigned.
4. INTERRELATIONSHIPS
The incumbent reports to the Head of Multimedia under the overall guidance of the Head of Unit Content. The incumbent is also required to maintain close working relationships with other teams in PDD and with points of contact NATOwide as well as external contractors.

6. CONTRACT
Contract to be offered to the successful applicant (if nonseconded): Definite duration contract of three years; possibility of renewal for up to three years during which the incumbent may apply for conversion to an indefinite duration contract.
Contract clause applicable:
In accordance with the contract policy this is a post in which turnover is desirable for political reasons in order to be able to accommodate the Organisations need to carry out its tasks as mandated by the Nations in a changing environment for example by maintaining the flexibility necessary to shape the Organisations skills profile and to ensure appropriate international diversity.
The maximum period of service foreseen in this post is 6 years. The successful applicant will be offered a 3year definite duration contract which may be renewed for a further period of up to 3 years. However according to the procedure described in the contract policy the incumbent may apply for conversion to an indefinite contract during the period of renewal and no later than one year before the end of contract.
If the successful applicant is seconded from the national administration of one of NATOs member States a 3year definite duration contract will be offered which may be renewed for a further period of up to 3 years subject also to the agreement of the national authority concerned. The maximum period of service in the post as a seconded staff member is six years.
Serving staff will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Rgulations.
NOTE:Irrespective of previous qualifications and experience candidates for twingraded posts will be appointed at the lower grade. Advancement to the higher grade is not automatic and will not normally take place during the first three years of service in the post.
Under specific circumstances serving staff members may be appointed directly to the higher grade and a period of three years might be reduced by up to twenty four months for external candidates. These circumstances are described in the IS directive on twingraded posts.
