Job Description

PAY GRADE: Supplemental Pay Schedule Grade 13

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The job of Athletic Director (Middle School) is done for the purpose/s of directing the coaching staff representing the school athletic program and ensuring that there is an administrator present at every athletic event where the school is designated as the HOME team whether it is at the home campus or at another campus. The Athletic Director (Middle School) works closely with and reports to the school principal.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.

  • Responsible to the principal of the middle school and serves as a liaison between staff members and administration.
  • Develops and monitors the department budget and approves departmental purchases and athletic schedules.
  • Reviews staff requests and makes related recommendations to the administration.
  • Assists staff members in professional matters as requested or as the need for such assistance is observed.
  • Insures that the equipment is properly inventoried and maintained.
  • Responsible for the administering all interscholastic policies and procedures working within the confines of the SUSD Middle School Athletic Handbook.
  • Observes coaches sufficiently in order to make future recommendations in terms of job expectations and make recommendations to school principal as to coaches job assignment.
  • Responsible for evaluating all new coaching candidates for jobs and will be a member of each selection committee.
  • Responsible for all recommendations to the principal for improvement of facilities.
  • Coordinates with Plant Manager for repair and maintenance of athletic fields track and gymnasium.
  • Resolves conflicts that develop within athletic department.
  • Maintains a current file of studentathletes physical forms insurance forms parent consent forms etc.
  • Works with principal cheerleading coach involved in all athletic assemblies and spirit rallies.
  • Represents the school in all athletic business at Athletic Director meetings.
  • Responsible for scheduling student/parent meetings.
  • Responsible for the annual review of the Middle School Athletic Handbook/Parent Handbook.
  • Constantly evaluates the program presents recommendations for changes in athletic policies from the athletic department to the principal and or District athletic director.
  • Performs other duties as the principal may direct.

Athletic duties also include:

  • Communication between the schools and District departments such as Purchasing Transportation Maintenance and Grounds should be accomplished by one person per school at the administrations direction.
  • Compliance with District regulations is a shared responsibility among coaches athletic directors and building administrators. The principal assumes the primary responsibility to see that violations which would reflect negatively on the school are prevented.
  • The administration has supervisory authority for all staff including coaches. Matters that could affect or set precedents for the District athletic programs should be coordinated with the administration.
  • Monitor student athlete compliance with the minimum 2.0 GPA as set forth by Board policy and work to ensure athletic eligibility of all participants.
  • Schedule transportation for athletic events.
  • Prepare and maintain the athletic facilities with District Maintenance and Grounds departments.
  • Approve the scheduling of the school athletic facilities to ensure they are available and ready at the proper times.
  • Supervise athletic fee payments.
  • Direct supervision of athletic contests until the last student is off campus.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):

  • Fingerprint clearance card
  • Criminal background investigation

  • Works with little or no supervision and demonstrates initiative

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts odors chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and intense noises.
