Full time starting salary is normally in the range 29647 to 31460 with potential progression once in post to 35388

As this vacancy has limited funding the maximum salary that can be offered is Grade 5 salary 29647

Part Time 18 hours per week)

Background

The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Birmingham invites applications for an Senior Administrator role to support for the Schools Particle Physics Research Group and the wider School. The successful applicant will work closely with members of the Groupto provide a front of house service across a range of functions including HR finance facilities and events. This is a varied role requiring good interpersonal skills and relationship management across staff and students within the School as well as across wider University post holder will be part of the Schools wider administrative team and will also contribute to Schoolwide activities.

The Particle Physics Research Group comprises around 60 people including academics researchers PhD students and technicians. It is a worldleading research centre with longstanding involvement in several large international experiments at the European Organization for Nuclear Research known as CERN aiming to understand the physical nature of the world around us. The Group is also involved in new experiments at the Boulby Mine in Yorkshire aimed at discovering Dark Matter an extremely elusive component of the universe as well as major new experiments in the US.

The School of Physics and Astronomy has a wideranging research portfolio covering not only particle physics but also astrophysics nuclear physics and quantum physics. Our research was ranked top in the UK for 4starcategory research by the Research Excellence Framework 2021. Since 2012 our researchers in the School have been associated with three Nobel prizes (through membership of collaborations and two former colleagues winning the prize for work conducted in Birmingham).

The School of Physics and Astronomy is an Institute of Physics Juno Champion since 2014 and holder of an Athena SWAN Silver Award. Role Summary

As a Senior Administrator within the Group and wider School you will provide support for a broad range of administrative duties some of which may be will be responsible for supporting colleagues and sharing will be able to use your wide range of skills both technical and administrative and have the opportunity to lead on specific will also have the opportunity to work in different areas of the School and also to help support the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences which the School is part of.

Planning and Organising

The role is required to work independently on daily weekly and monthly tasks but also on projects with mediumlongerterm horizons without daily manage workloads of other staff.

They will work with direction from management but with a significant degree of will deal with more complex queries and be expected to resolve any problems in their area of responsibility. They may also manage the workload of others or coach others to achieve results.

Internal and External relationships

This role will be liaising with internal colleagues and stakeholders likely to be Universitywide and with external stakeholders.
