Job Description

Reporting to the Certification Officer Seafarer the Support Officer is responsible for providing administrative support and first level of governance associated with the issue of certification to seafarers in accordance with Marine Order 505

This position reports to: Certification Officer Seafarer.


This position works closely with:

  • Industry groups
  • Domestic and international seafarers
  • AMSA Divisions


Requirements

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Enter data accurately into the nominated AMSA customer records management system for domestic (near coastal) applications; maintain records in accordance with AMSA policy; lodge assess and process applications leading to the issue of certificates.
  • Complete verifications of certificates of competency issued by AMSA or by overseas administrations.
  • Maintain an understanding and knowledge of relevant legislative instruments (including Marine Orders); organisational intranet and website Seafarer Certification Service (SCS) procedures and Qualification Instructions (QIs).
  • Provide support and information both verbally and in writing to ensure high standards of compliance and understanding to seafarers and stakeholders seeking domestic (near coastal) certificates of competency.
  • Propose plan and execute ideas for continuous improvement and change management.
  • When required assist the SCS staff in other regional offices.
  • Attend and participate in SCS staff and team meetings actively contributing to continuous improvement and change.
  • Commit to the AMSA Code of Conduct and Values



Essential criteria 1. A track record of delivering technology products in large organisations 2. A demonstrated understanding of what makes for a great developer experience for external users 3. Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams that follow agile and user-centred design practices 4. Experience working on large Government transformation programs highly regarded Desirable criteria 1. Knowledge, experience of, and relationships with the agriculture technology industry 2. Delivery of technology to support regulatory decision-making processes 3. Experience delivering to the Australian Government Digital Service Standard
