Job Description

We are looking for an ambitious and collaborativeRights Managerto sell translation rights predominantly in coedition as part of the highperforming illustrated rights team at Quadrille. If you bring proven experience selling rights at a publisher then this role could be for you this would be a perfect next step for a Senior Rights Executive or current Rights Manager looking for a new challenge.

The opportunity

If you have a proactive approach to selling the drive to achieve growth and the ability to maintain excellent relationships then you could thrive in the highly driven Quadrille Rights team. In this role you will be responsible for achieving excellent sales and handling important customer relationships for key overseas markets (to include Germany or France). In addition to driving growth in your markets you will contribute market insights and feedback on title potential developing and maintaining trusted relationships with key stakeholders across the business including editorial production comms and publicity will engage with team strategy for ambitious innovative and creative ways of increasing title sales achieving your own budget and maximising growth sales and customer opportunities.

Quadrille is a global awardwinning food and lifestyle publisher with an enviable catalogue of household names as well as trendsetting bright new talent in cookery craft lifestyle and gift. Known for combining cuttingedge design with inspiring content Quadrille books have high production values and the coeditions business is very closely connected to the design and production teams. The team also represent foreign rights for the adult lists of awardwinning independent publisher Hardie Grant.

Key responsibilities:

  • Negotiate and sell coedition and translation rights skilfully and ambitiously providing dynamic representation and maximising sales growth potential through personal contact at bookfairs sales trips and yearround submissions.
  • Maintain sophisticated product and market knowledge across publishing group to provide impactful dataled feedback for rights potential in given markets for acquisition and proactively track market to capture changes/new players and innovate to extend customer base.
  • Work with Head of Translations and CoEditions to set and drive ambitious sales and market growth targets present plans for strategic exploitation of rights and actively support and contribute to team strategy for innovative and creative ways of increasing title sales including backlist.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with customers displaying strong organisation growth mindset interpersonal skills and collaborative working with all stakeholders to maximise sales growth opportunities.
  • Establish excellent relationships with editorial production marketing and comms teams.
  • Oversee coedition fulfilment by junior team members which includes tracking provisional and confirmed printings price requests setting up print deals on FileMaker and Biblio contracts handling approvals of cover and layout files and resolving queries.
  • Work with Head of Translation and Coeditions to help nurture and develop junior rights team members particularly giving support to those working on production fulfilment to enable high quality highly productive work.

What youll bring

Essential criteria:

  • Solid rights experience including considerable experience selling coeditions.
  • A strong negotiator with excellent influencing skills at all levels an instinct for identifying new opportunities and a flair for selling.
  • Excellent communicator with strong pitching presentation sales and deal management skills.
  • Comprehensive analytical ability evaluation skills and financial awareness.
  • Confident in representing a large and varied list of nonfiction titles at bookfairs and on sales trips.
  • A willing flexible project manager with strong administrative and organisation skills and the ability to endorse and adapt to change and handle competing priorities or challenging situations under pressure whilst delivering to deadlines and to budget.
  • A natural team player with an appetite for learning and applying feedback as well as an interest in taking on new responsibility.
