Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Credit Manager to oversee and optimize the companys credit and collections operations for both our e-commerce and brick-and-mortar furniture sales. This role is critical in managing customer credit risk improving cash flow and supporting profitable growth through strong credit controls customer assessments and proactive collections management.
Credit Risk Management:
- Develop implement and enforce credit policies and procedures tailored to retail (brick-and-mortar) and e-commerce channels.
- Evaluate new customer creditworthiness through trade references credit reports (e.g. D&B) financial statements and payment history.
- Set and monitor customer credit limits based on risk profiles and business needs.
- Reassess credit limits regularly based on payment behavior and updated financial data.
Accounts Receivable Oversight:
- Monitor aging reports and ensure timely follow-up on overdue accounts across all sales channels.
- Collaborate with the AR team to resolve disputes short payments or chargebacks from retail partners and online marketplaces (e.g. Amazon Wayfair).
- Implement collection strategies appropriate for B2B wholesale accounts retail partners and direct online customers.
Sales Support & Customer Relationship:
- Support the Sales team by providing credit input during onboarding and contract renewals.
- Maintain a balance between minimizing credit risk and supporting revenue growth.
- Communicate credit decisions and terms clearly to internal teams and customers.
Reporting & Compliance:
- Prepare regular reports on receivables aging bad debt exposure and credit utilization.
- Identify trends in payment behavior and recommend actions to reduce risk and improve DSO.
- Ensure compliance with company credit policies and relevant regulations (e.g. Fair Credit Reporting Act).
Process Improvement:
- Recommend and implement automation tools for credit assessment and collection follow-ups.
- Collaborate with IT and Finance to streamline credit approval and customer onboarding processes.
- Contribute to ERP or system enhancements to improve visibility of credit exposure and collections activities.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Finance Accounting or related field (CPA preferred but not required)
- Minimum of 57 years of credit management or AR experience preferably in retail or e-commerce sectors
- Strong understanding of credit risk analysis and collection strategies for both B2B and B2C customers
- Familiarity with major e-commerce platforms (e.g. Amazon Wayfair) and wholesale payment terms
- Proficiency in using ERP systems (e.g. NetSuite Infor Acumatica) and AR/credit tools
- Excellent communication negotiation and decision-making skills
- Ability to work across teams including Sales Customer Service and Operations
Preferred Skills:
- Experience managing credit in a furniture or home goods industry
- Understanding of chargebacks remittance discrepancies and EDI payments
- Ability to navigate both structured retail partnerships and fast-paced e-commerce operations
