JOB PURPOSE:
Under general supervision of the Regional Site Director and Site Lead Teacher delivers high quality Early Childhood Development services to children enrolled in site programs including educational social physical nutritional and psychological development of children under their care. Communicates with parents on their childs individual progress and maintains records of attendance and educational achievement. Plans lessons serves meals and ensures healthy and safe learning environment for children.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the care and supervision of all enrolled PACE Education centerbased children planning and implementing classroom lessons conducting meetings and conferences with parents coordinating activities and events for children and parents interacting with the public and providing customer service by phone email and in person and preparing correspondence reports records and other paperwork required by the early childhood education program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
General Floater Responsibilities
- Provides breaks for Teaching Staff.
- Supports all Classroom Teaching Staff.
- Promote feelings of security and trust in infants and toddlers by conveying warmth supportiveness and comfort; establish strong and caring relationships with children
- Provide assistance to interested families including completion of preenrollment forms answering questions touring the facility etc.
- Ensure the proper care safety and supervision of children always while at the site.
- Ensures child/adult ratio is met and maintained.
- Conduct safety checks and maintain a safe clean caregiving environment practices good personal hygiene and handwashing and assures the wellbeing and safety of all the children in the environment and sanitize all areas of the classroom including food preparation and eating area.
- Tend to childrens personal hygiene needs during routines such as diaper changing cleaning feeding and changing soiled or wet clothes.
- Assist Teaching Staff with teacherparent conferences and home visits as needed.
- Ability to attend assignments away from assigned site such as inservice trainings home visits parent conferences etc.
- Prepares and/or serves meals and snacks; holding infants sitting with toddlers to encourage social interaction good nutrition and performs housekeeping tasks.
- Supervise children during nap time.
- Works effectively with other team members.
- Organizes and maintains instructional and program supplies.
- Maintains an organized and developmentally appropriate classroom.
- Maintains full enrollment and participates in recruitment of children as indicated in the ERSEA plan.
- Accurately completes all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis according to agency policies and procedures.
- Provides appropriate customer service to parents children community representatives/members and all PACE staff daily.
- Must have exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Cooperates with Early Head Start Supervisor and other Service Area Coordinators in planning supervision and implementation of overall program
- Provides a wellsupervised and safe learning environment.
- Substitute as needed in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- Attend all assigned meetings and trainings as required by the program.
- Supports and ensures the achievement of recruitment and enrollment goals.
- Assists in accomplishing the programs nonfederal share through the access of community resources (services donations discounts and/or goods).
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Responsibilities when Covering for an Early Head Start Teacher
- Implement daily classroom lesson plans in accordance with curriculum plan.
- Ability to work with children with Individual Educational Plans.
- Plans and implement classroom lessons and activities for children.
- Develop and utilize integrated curriculum plans which reflect mandated elements and components parental and cultural influences and promote the social emotional physical and cognitive development of Early Head Start children.
- Prepare infant/toddler learning environment for children to learn through active exploration and interaction with adult caregivers and adapt activities for infants and toddlers with special needs.
- Prepares attendance records first aid/injury reports food service records meal participation records family contact records memos correspondence and other jobrelated documents.
- Maintains records of enrollment attendance and other required paperwork both manually and digitally.
- Schedule support and follow through with the developmental screening and ongoing assessment of infants and toddlers motor language social cognitive perceptual and emotional skills (including DRDP2015 IT ASQ3 ASQ: SE2 etc.. Record and analyze childrens observations.
- Accurately completes all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis according to agency policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE):
- Education and Work Experience
- Associate degree in early childhood education child development or related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accreditation association recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
- Must possess a current and valid Child Development Teacher Permit or higher
- The Multiple Subject Teaching Credential authorizes the holder to teach all subjects in a selfcontained classroom including preschool. PACE will accept a valid credential in lieu of a Child Development Permit.
- Must obtain total of 6 units but 3 semester units must be presented at hire and 3 units may be completed within the first year of employment.
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to provide effective and nurturing teacherchild interactions and to plan and implement learning experiences that:
- Ensure effective curriculum planning and implementation based upon individual childrens development continuum and integrate child assessment data in individual and group planning.
- Promote childrens progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards including for children with disabilities and dual language learners as appropriate.
- Include developmentally appropriate learning experiences in language literacy social and emotional development math science social studies creative arts and physical development that are focused on achieving progress outlined in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five.
- Establish and maintain a healthy learning environment; and
- Encourage families engagement with their children in all Head Start programs to support the development of relationships between children and their families.
- Must be a team player with outstanding interpersonal skills
- Must have good organizational written/oral communication and observation skills
- Basic computer skills required.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus but not required
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
- Current Adult & Pediatric CPR/1St Aid Certificate
- Valid California Drivers License and insurance coverage
- Must pass the following background checks prior to start of employment:

- State or Tribal Criminal History Check including fingerprints
- FBI Criminal History Check including fingerprints
- Must have verification of T.B. clearance at time of employment to be renewed every four 4 years (every 4 years for chest xrays).
- Must pass health screening (LIC 503 at time of employment health screening is accepted within one year prior to hire to be renewed every four 4 years.
- Provide proof of the following immunizations as required: Measles Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Influenza.
- COVID vaccination required; must have twodose series of Pfizer or Moderna or a singledose of Johnson & Johnson. Those that need a medical or religious exemption must reach out separately.
- Must complete 15 clock hours of professional development annually that builds the knowledge experience skills and abilities of staff to improve child family and staff outcomes. Of this a minimum of 50 of the 15 hours (or 7.5 hours) must be focused on the specific content area or job assignment. Must also complete an annual Professional Development Plan (PDP) to be reviewed 3 times during the year.
- Must obtain 21 hours/year of professional development 105 hours every five years) to maintain their teaching certification.
- PACE will assist applicants that are eligible and have an active Certificate of Clearance with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing to apply for a Temporary County Certificate Child Development (TCC) through Los Angeles County while waiting for CTC (Commission on Teacher Credentialing) to process.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The working conditions and physical demands of this position will be those that must be met to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties. The physical environment the incumbent will work in is typically a preschool environment with moderate noise levels that would be expected in that type of work environment. Outdoor and indoor supervision of playgrounds / workplace for ongoing periods occurs regularly. Lift and carry up to 45 lbs. or more. The individual must be able to work with children at their eye level and always maintain visual supervision of children as well as hear communicate and comprehend effectively with children staff and parents. The individual also must be able to walk sit kneel crawl carry push pull and participate in activities indoors and outdoors as needed in an environment with children and adults.
