About the opportunity

The Community Engagement Worker supports the delivery of the Suicide Prevention Community Action Plan (SPCAP) across the Townsville region using a collective impact approach. This role focuses on raising awareness of suicide prevention supporting community engagement activities and promoting access to mental health services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the SPCAP team and Community Development Coordinator

  • Engage local community members and gatekeepers to raise awareness of suicide prevention

  • Promote and share information on available suicide prevention training and resources

  • Manage and update the regions SPCAP website and social media channels

  • Assist in planning and delivering SPCAP events community forums and workshops

  • Support referral pathways by connecting atrisk individuals with appropriate services

  • Collect analyse and report data and feedback from community engagement activities

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Relevant qualifications or commensurate experience in working in the mental health or community services sector generally Certificate IV or Diploma qualification (Health/Mental Health)
  • Nonjudgmental supportive attitude and ability to listen to community needs
  • Ability to remain calm in a crisis situation

Desirable:

  • Experience in Community Development and/or Suicide Prevention.
  • Experience with program planning development coordination and delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience and or transferable skills/ knowledge in working with people who have experienced suicidality or bereavement

Required Compliance:

  • Right to work within Australia
  • 100 points of identification
  • Current valid Drivers Licence and the ability to undertake some travel
  • Satisfactory National Police Records Check
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working with Childrens Check (Employee/PAID)
