Chemistry is often referred to as the central science bridging the gap between physics and biology and underpinning many of the other scientific disciplines. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry serves the State of Mississippi and the nation by providing undergraduate and graduate students educational excellence in chemical sciences conducting research that contributes to new knowledge and catalyzing economic development. We aspire to be a leading force for advancing society through the continuous pursuit of educational excellence and cuttingedge research in the traditional areas of chemistry (physical analytical biochemistry inorganic organic and chemical education) as well as exciting new collaborative areas such as renewable energy astrochemistry and nanomaterials. We are a complex department with 24 fulltime faculty approximately 50 graduate students and 4 undergraduate majors. The department is highly collaborative sharing interests and expertise and faculty hold multiple externallyfunded grants to conduct very exciting stateoftheart research.

Grade 7
Administers daytoday fiscal administrative and operational activities of a department or set of departments. Administers fiscal budgetary and/or other associated transactions strategic implementation and administration internal and external operational/administrative liaising and reporting.
This position plans manages implements and provides oversight over a variety of administrative support functions for a large or complex department. The incumbent manages the planning and facilitation of events; prepares detailed reports reviews account activity and makes recommendations for departmental budget; provides supervision and guidance to support staff.
These essential functions include but are not limited to the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
1. Administer and oversee daytoday fiscal activities including financial transactions budget tracking and expense management for the department(s).
2. Assist with administrative tasks such as coordinating meetings managing correspondence and maintaining records and documentation.
3. Develop and monitor departmental budgets ensuring adherence to financial policies and procedures.
4. Support strategic implementation efforts by collaborating with departmental stakeholders to align operational activities with organizational goals and priorities.
5. Serve as a liaison between the department(s) and internal stakeholders other departments and external partners or vendors.
6. Conduct research and analysis to provide recommendations on operational and administrative improvement opportunities.
7. Prepare regular reports and presentations on departmental performance financial status and operational metrics for management and other stakeholders.
8. Assist in the development and implementation of administrative policies procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance and best practices.
9. Coordinate and support departmental projects and initiatives including tracking progress facilitating communication and ensuring timely completion.
