Position Details:
Washington State University (WSU) and the College of Agricultural Human and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) andExtensionseeks a Director of the 4H Youth Development Program. This is a permanent 9month fulltime careertrack OR tenuretrack faculty appointment. The successful candidate will be required to work and will receive salary for two additional months while serving as Director. Appointment is at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
This position may be based at any of the Extension REC or campus facilities in Washington State negotiable at the time of hire. This position requires the successful candidate to reside in Washington State or neighboring state within commuting distance and be available to work alongside colleagues from WSU Extension oces Research and Extension Centers (REC) or campuses.
Washington State University Extension is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to serve as the Director for Washington States 4H Youth Development Program. This position is essential in shaping the future of Washingtons 4H program guiding the strategic development of programs that impact thousands of young people across the state. The Director will provide dynamic and visionary leadership for the implementation and evaluation of high quality evidencebased positive youth development educational programs and is responsible for creating and implementing strategies and programs to support the growth and development of 4H youth volunteers and staff. The Director works with the Extension Program Units and Academic Departments to ensure that the programs connect research and extension efforts to the latest research on positive youth development and collaborates with specialists advisors staff and county and Tribal Extension offices in program delivery across the state. The Director is expected to represent 4H at local regional and national levels. The Director provides leadership and oversight to 4H Advisory Committees 4H focus areas and other funded programs. The Director works with faculty and staff to develop and coordinate revenue generating opportunities in support of 4H and develops interprets and implements policies related to 4H. Primary clientele is 4H staff faculty regional and/or County/Tribal directors and 4H adult volunteers who in turn deliver programs to meet the needs of young people and families in the community. Administrative duties include the supervision of 4H staff; acquiring funds for the program; preparing and managing budgets; ensuring compliance with policies procedures and terms and conditions of program grants and contracts; and reporting outcomes and impacts of the program.
LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY
This position is responsible to the Associate Dean and Director of the WSU Extension.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Vision: Lead the Washington State 4H Program ensuring alignment with and contribution to Washington State University and the College of Agricultural Human and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) strategic plans and Extensions mission to enhance youth development through evidencebased education. Provide strategic leadership for statewide 4H programs fostering a culture of inclusivity and engagement.
Program Development: Oversee the development implementation and evaluation of innovative 4H programs with a focus on expanding outreach to all youth throughout Washington. Demonstrate a strong commitment to broaden access and ensure that programs are evidencedriven and deliver measurable impacts.
Team Building: Establish support and facilitate working groups that build strong alliances and support systems of sharedleadership and shared expertise across the state.
Collaboration & Partnership: Build and sustain strong partnerships with community leaders partners volunteers and Extension and other CAHNRS and WSU faculty. Engage with local regional and national 4H leadership to represent Washington and WSU Extension on broader youth development initiatives.
Staff & Fiscal Management: Provide leadership and mentorship to 4H professionals faculty and staff and volunteers. Assess and mitigate risk. Oversee budget management and secure external funding through grants and partnerships to support and grow Washingtons 4H programs.
Communication: Exhibit exceptional communication skills. Provide effective and timely communication for internal and external audiences. Work with faculty and staff to develop clear and accessible content such as factsheets impact statements and peerreviewed scholarship and curricula. Ensure effective messaging that communicates the value and outcomes and impacts of 4H programs.
Training & Workshops: Support the recruitment and retention of engaged educators. Work with faculty and staff to conduct training sessions and workshops to ensure personnel and volunteers are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver highquality 4H programs.
Advocacy & Engagement: Advocate for the importance of positive youth development and serve as a key spokesperson for 4H programs across the state. Develop and deliver impactful messaging and reports that communicate the value and outcomes and societal impacts of 4H programs to internal and external audiences.
This position will lead multidisciplinary teams across the state of Washington.
Extension faculty members are hired into the organization. It is possible that future circumstances may require relocation.

The successful candidate will include a 9month faculty appointment plus two months. The additional salary is included in the annual salary range above.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS BOTH RANKS
Earned Masters degree in youth development human development public administration agricultural and/or Extension education education or an appropriate field of study at the time of application.
A minimum of five years of leadership experience in Extension or a similar organization with a proven track record of successful program management and staff supervision.
Qualifies for the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (scholarship program development publication record grant/contract acquisition program delivery program evaluation).
Reliable transportation for yearround travel is required. Mileage will be reimbursed for workrelated travel at the approved state rate if using a private vehicle. While using a private or WSU motor pool vehicle for official business have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090; and must have or be able to obtain by time of hire a valid drivers license and meet requirements in accordance withSPPM 7.10and departmental driving standards.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR CANDIDATES FOR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR RANK TENURE TRACK
Currently serving in the rank of tenured as an Associate Professor Professor or equivalent and has a record of accomplishments commensurate with college standards for tenure at the level of associate professor. If consideration for tenure is unsuccessful at the time of hire candidate will be eligible as career track.
