****Applicants seeking shortterm or parttime work with the University Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or instructionaltype positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for fulltime employees and up to 1 calendar year for parttime employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Assess dietary intake from food images written food records and 24hour dietary recalls 24HR). Food images are captured by participants using mobile technology and assessed using the remote food photography method via a secure webbased server. Written food records are captured by participants using traditional paperbased methods and 24HR are captured using online or paperbased methods.
  2. Assist with the development of study materials for clinical trials including study protocols recruitment materials participant training presentations and study questionnaires.
  3. Assist with data entry including entering participant demographics user satisfaction surveys usability questionnaires user preference surveys and dietary data.
  4. Assist with the management of daytoday activities of nutrition research projects. Works closely with the PI in planning and conducting a range of nutrition research studies including cross sectional studies and randomized control trials. Assist the PI with development and evaluation of dietary assessment tools through the information gathered from data collection.
  5. Ensures adherence to human subject protocols. Assists with the preparation and submission of IRB applications and annual progress reports.
  6. Assists with managing project data. Assists with conference abstracts and manuscript preparationdevelopment of mobile applications assisting with obtaining clinical trials results and developing nutrition education videos focused on improving diet quality.
  7. Participates in regular project meetings with PI and research staff.
  8. Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:


  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any degree program and one 1 year of professional work experience in health care or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Demonstrated ability to complete tasks in an effective and timely manner.
  3. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software including Microsoft Officecreating mobile applications. In particular knowledge on building a food and nutrient database for a mobile app testing the usability of mobile applications and communicating any app errors to an app developer.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of conducting nutrition focused clinical trials including development of survey questionnaires study protocols study recruitment materials delivery of study interventions and data entry.
  5. Knowledge of developing nutrition education videos for improving diet quality. Including writing nutrition education scripts and leading the filming of the nutrition education videos.
