Position Description
The Department of Electrical Engineering at San Jos State University (SJSU) is pleased to announce a search for a tenuretrack Assistant Professor position in the areas of Power Electronics Robotics & Control beginning in August 2025. The incumbent will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate electrical engineering courses and ideally should have research in the above areas. Located in the center of Silicon Valley the Department of Electrical Engineering at SJSU has established a firm goal to provide a highquality electrical engineering education to its students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The department offers classroom instruction by the bestqualified EE faculty handson experience in industrysponsored stateoftheart laboratories and opportunities for industry internships. The department has over 550 undergraduate and 250 graduate students.
Both EE undergraduate and graduate programs support students to obtain professional experience while taking classes. In conjunction with their classes many students work as Instructional Student Assistants and Teaching Associates in the department and EE interns in the Silicon Valley firms. Required Qualifications
- Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering by the start of the appointment.
- Applicants must have a research background in Power Electronics Robotics & Control.
- Applicants must have a strong commitment and demonstrate potential of teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and to engage in curriculum development.
- Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in crosscultural study training teaching and other comparable experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Priority will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:
- Academic and industry experience in Energy/Power Systems Power Electronics Control Systems with applications in robotics and autonomous systems.
- Potential for high quality research by publications and/or external grants received.
Key Responsibilities
- Faculty member is expected to teach supervise and advise students in both undergraduate and graduate programs to provide leadership in developing modern curriculum in Energy/Power Systems Power Electronics Control Robotics Autonomous Systems; to establish a research program related to their field of interest; and to seek external partnership funding and/or collaboration with Silicon Valley and beyond.
- The candidate will participate in shared governance usually in department college and university committees and other service assignments.
- Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity in age abilities cultural background ethnicity religion economic background primary language sexual orientation gender identity and academic preparation through inclusive course materials teaching strategies and advisement.
Other Duties
Note that all San Jos State University employees are considered mandated reporters under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and are required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) and CSU systemwide policy some faculty duties may lead to designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs are required to complete Clery Act training and to immediately report Clery incidents to the institution.
