The Informatics and Predictive Sciences (IPS) mission is to Pioneer Partner and Predict to drive transformative insights for patient benefit. IPS conducts applied computational research in areas that include genomic structural and molecular informatics computational and systems biology patient selection and translational biomarker research and broader fields including knowledge science epidemiology and machine learningacross the full lifecycle of drug discovery and development and across all therapeutic areas at BMS. We do this in close partnership with scientific and clinical experts in the field both inside and outside the company. Overview
We seek a collaborative constructive interdisciplinary computational scientist to deliver novel hypotheses for patient benefit in BMS Research. This person will play a key scientific role by integrating molecular data with other key modalities and leveraging innovative computational research strategies and rich patient data to empower datadriven discovery and decisions. Application areas include developing a systemlevel framework for identifying novel therapeutic targets integrating causal human biology into cell therapy engineering design and abstracting and integrating cell perturbation concepts across modalities.
The position would suit a person with excellent communication and collaboration skills who is able to work on large cross functional teams and in an environment with many computational scientists with diverse backgrounds. The role offers the opportunity to impact directly the delivery of truly transformational and lifechanging therapies in key diseases of unmet medical need.
Responsibilities
Working in collaboration with computational biological and clinical scientists across the BMS Research organization responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Multimodal analysis of heterogeneous cellular environments using published methods or creating novel methods to understand drivers of phenotypic traits and cellular population composition
- Integration and analysis of diverse data sources including single cell and bulk molecular data genetic studies perturbation experiments etc.
- Collaboration with AI and machine learning scientists to inform architectural design apply novel methods and iteratively improve predictions
- Use of AI tools to facilitate and accelerate data analysis and integration
- Ability to work and reach out across diverse teams and departments in a mutually productive fashion with many shared objectives.
- Participation in and oversight of scientific report writing. Presentation of methods results and conclusions to a publishable standard primarily for internal audiences.
- Contribution to planning and of collaborative projects with outstanding BMS research teams as well as academic groups.
- Pursuit and guidance of pioneering computational biology research towards key scientific objectives.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree 8 years of academic / industry experience
- Or Masters Degree 6 years of academic / industry experience
- Or PhD 4 years of academic / industry experience
Preferred Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in computational biology statistics bioinformatics or related field from a recognized highereducation establishment.
- 9 years postdoctoral experience of interdisciplinary computational biology research in university pharmaceutical hospital or biotechnology environments.
- 3 years in pharma/biotech research environment preferable.
- Strong and applied knowledge required in analysis and modeling of single cell molecular data.
- Experience building novel machine learning methods or causal inference a plus
- Track record of peerreviewed publication in relevant scientific journals.
- Deep expertise in algorithmic implementation statistical programming and data manipulation using e.g. Python R/Bioconductor and contemporary opensource bioinformatics tools and database structures.
- Proven problemsolving skills collaborative and constructive nature and adaptability across disciplines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent verbal and written English language skills prerequisite.
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $119000 $149000 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay takes into account characteristics of the job such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final individual compensation is decided based on demonstrated experience.
