Job Description

Migrant Recruiter

Department: Instruction Dual Language ELL Bilingual Migrant Native American

Unit: No Benefits (NB)

Rate of Pay: $23.00 per hour

Hours: 4hours per week maximum times may vary afternoon and evening

JOB SUMMARY

This employee is responsible for identifying recruiting and assisting migrant families that come to Grand Rapids Public Schools.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act may include any of the following duties knowledge and skills. Regular on time and in person attendance is an essential function of this job. Other essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Visit home community business and schools to identify and interview migrant families and completion of Certificate of Eligibility (C.O.E) forms on each eligible family
  • Visit schools and homes to determine needs of migrant children and gather education and health information on eligible children
  • Maintain close coordination between school personnel and families to assist in areas of need for migrant families
  • Maintain file of community resources for referral services to migrant families
  • Maintain records and files of migrant students
  • Interact with coworkers administration students and parents in cooperative supportive and positive ways
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid Michigan drivers license and reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College courses

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated excellent communication verbal and written skills in English and Spanish required
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to children and migrant families
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with school personnel
  • Demonstrated experience working with computers
  • Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information and maintain a high degree of confidentiality

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Stands and/or walks during most of the working day. Turns stoops climbs bends pushes pulls reaches for and carries materials and equipment in the performance of tasks. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. Must be able to work outside for extended periods (up to the entire eighthour shift) in all weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to compare analyze communicate both orally and in writing in the English language copy coordinate instruct compute synthesize evaluate use interpersonal skills compile and negotiate.
