Job Description

Assistant Site Director

Burlington Afterschool Program

JOB GOAL: In coordination with the Site Director the Assistant Site Director is responsible for the implementation of and behavior management of one designated site of the Burlington School Districts After School program. The Assistant Site Director may be asked to step into the Site Director role in the absence of the Site Director. The Districts After School program serves over 1500 children K 12 throughout the district providing afterschool programs and activities that contribute to students academic achievement safety and healthy development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree or above.
  • Strong organizational administrative and managerial skills.
  • A minimum of three years experience in afterschool programs; child care services; teaching social work or related experience.
  • Experience with behavior interventions IEPs and 504 plans
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience in team building across organizational lines.
  • Proficient in computer applications including data collection and budget management spreadsheets email and internet use.
  • Familiar with laws and regulations governing education in Vermont.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Program Administration

  • Support the Site Director in planning supervising and implementing afterschool programs that support the mission and goals of BAS and its funding sources.
  • Support the student enrollment process including registration attendance subsidy and/or payment and roster creation using standard systems procedures and deadlines as established by the district.
  • If needed coordinate child care subsidy process with families and with VT Division of Child and Family Services.
  • Ensure completion of required tracking and reporting requirements in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Coordinate with Site Director to ensure the program is kept current with licensing standards and regulations with regard to curriculum space staffing training site procedures and safety.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures contained in Staff Handbook Parent Handbook and Emergency Procedures.

Staff Supervision

  • Support the Site Director as needed in the process of hiring and supervising core staff.
  • Maintain order in afterschool programs in a just and fair manner.
  • Support student instruction and learning activities of other faculty and staff.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment and take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.

Communication

  • Effective and regular communication with Site Director about all aspects of afterschool program.
  • Provide ongoing communication with parents school staff administration and partnering agencies.
  • Attend regular meetings with other Site Directors and Program Director.
  • Participate in scheduled inservice days if needed.
  • Cooperate with and support other faculty and staff in planning instruction and coordinating services for students.
  • Use discretion in discussing school affairs recognizing the value of positive schoolcommunity relations.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education goals and instructional objectives.
  • Comply with Board and administrative policies regulations and procedures and reinforces students doing the same.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Programming

  • Support the Site Director in the development and of programs for academic physical and enrichment activities that provide choices are developmentally appropriate for population served fit the interests of attendees and make effective use of staff.
  • Support Site Director as needed to ensure program delivery including program presenters volunteers supplies snacks transportation etc.
  • Work with Site Director to incorporate outside providers and activities such as field trips into curriculum. Coordinate associated arrangements as needed.
  • Attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.
  • Substitute for the Site Director as needed.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as appropriate and/or assigned by Site Director.

Behavior Management Support

  • Serve as the Lead Behavior staff during program time. Provide staff with support in the areas of: behavior management deescalation and mediation. Work with Site Director to communicate with families as needed.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of spaces that are physically and emotionally safe that support our diverse student population.
  • May attend Behavior Support Team meetings with the school day and assume lead role in communicating with school day teacher special educators paras around special education student needs as needed.
  • Participate in and/or develop trainings relevant to student behavior management.

Essential Duties Physical Demands

  • Possess visual acuity and stamina to work at a computer monitor for at least part of each day.
  • Possess strength and stamina to be able to remain in a seated position for up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the workday.
  • Possess strength and stamina to be able to remain standing for a period of up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Frequent walking light lifting pulling pushing reaching or other limited physical activities.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain character and personality that instills confidence and respect of students parents and colleagues partner agencies and community organizations.
  • Demonstrate commitment towards professional growth and educational achievement for all students within the Burlington School District.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work environment is a regular office classroom or other school setting.
  • Airconditioned and non airconditioned buildings.
  • Occasional exposure to weather extremes.
  • Ability to tolerate extremes in noise levels.
  • Ability to tolerate stressful situations and maintain proper decorum.
