TITLE: SUMMER SCHOOL DIRECTOR

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Summer School Director working directly under the Bellingham High School Principal shall have the responsibility of organizing preparing a syllabus for each course and administering the Summer School Program. Report and/or presentation to the School Committee in the fall of 2025 is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides leadership to arrange educational programs to meet specific needs for remedial work during the summer term.
  2. Assists in the selection of qualified teachers and support staff for remedial instruction.
  3. Provides orientation and other necessary staff meetings to assist in the proper development of the summer school program.
  4. Organizes and administers the summer program including the maintaining of records and preparing of reports.
  5. Publicizes the summer school program and makes arrangements for advertising in newspapers and/or radio.
  6. Consults with members of the administrative and professional staff in the preparation of educational programs for summer school registrants.
  7. Prepares the summer school schedule and assumes responsibility for registration and assignment of students.
  8. Recommends promotion of students when their participation in the summer school program may be the deciding factor.
  9. Requisitions classroom equipment supplies and textbooks as needed.
  10. Makes classroom visits for administrative evaluation and supervisory purposes.
  11. Assumes responsibility for ensuring building cleanliness and upkeep on a daily basis.
  12. Assumes responsibility for attendance accounting and submits enrollment and attendance reports.
  13. Completes all reports related to the program within ten 10 days of the program conclusion.
  14. Provides leadership in the area of school discipline.
  15. Establishes a substitute teacher program of appropriate scope.
  16. Interprets and enforces all School Committee policies and regulations.
  17. Assumes other general related responsibilities as may be assigned.
  18. Adheres to the adopted policies and procedures of the Bellingham School Committee including the newly adopted Summer School Requirements.

SKILLS/ABILITY:

  1. Preferably experience as Summer School Director or Teacher.
  2. Supervisory experience in the development & implementation of Basic Skills policies and programs.
  3. Experience in program evaluation procedures.
  4. Ability to get along with ones colleagues the public as well as the ability to relate to students.
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Experience teaching 812 grade per the Massachusetts Frameworks preferred.
  1. Certified by the Massachusetts Department of Education.

SALARY: $6000 Stipend is based on upon completion of the summer camp program.

Stipend amount subject to enrollment.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.

Must be able to move about the classroom and can bend sit or stand frequently.
