The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones but at present we are only reaching around 10 of dying people at the end of now one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.

We are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to join the Inpatients Unit at our Outstanding CQC rated hospice in Newcastle.

Hours: Part time 23 hours per week

Salary:Marie Curie Pay Scale aligned with AFC Band 2 23615 per annum (pro rata) enhancements

As a Healthcare Assistant with Marie Curie team in at Newcastle Hospice Inpatients Unit youll be supporting patients and families in their time of greatest need. We provide free specialist palliative care and support to patients with life limiting illness whilst offering vital emotional support for their families.

With experience of End of Life care youre ready and able to make a real difference. Ours is a onetoone approach to care so youre sure to enjoy plenty of meaningful contact with patients and their families usually in their own homes. Working without close supervision youll have the opportunity to use your own initiative in line with the patients established care plan. Youll be required to carry out a range of care duties including helping patients meet their hygiene needs monitoring symptoms assisting with medications and keeping detailed records and emotional support to the patient and their families.

What were looking for:

• S/NVQ Level 2/3 qualification or an equivalent certificate/diploma is required
• Emotional strength and the ability to work on your own are crucial though we will of course provide excellent ongoing training and support
• Recent experience of providing care and caring for people with life limiting illness or palliative care needsin a health/social care setting
