JOB TITLE: School Psychologist(2024/2025

REPORTS TO:CoordinatorEducational Diagnostician

WAGE:Exempt

Pay Grade:AI 2

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) is responsible for serving on the appraisal team and consulting with teachers support personnel parents and community agencies concerning prevention and/or intervention strategies relating to learning and behavior problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Masters Degree in School Psychology from an accredited college or university
  • LSSP License

Preferred:

  • Teaching experience
  • Fluent in Spanish

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of psycho educational testing
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Skill in consultation with teachers and parents
  • Ability to work well under pressure

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Participates as a member of the Admission Review and Dismissal/Individual Educational Plan Committee for special education placement of and programming for students.
    • Assesses referred students to determine the factors influencing behavior as it relates to educational performance.
    • Assists in gathering of psychological data from outside professionals.
    • Collects and interprets data in order to make recommendations to support student academic progress.
    • Assess students functioning in relation to IDEA and TEA disability condition criteria.
    • Conduct and/or assist with Functional Behavior Assessment.
    • Conduct and/or assist with development of student Behavior Intervention Plan.
    • Functions as ARD committee member to formulate appropriate educational and behavioral goals for students.
    • Assists in the transmittal of psychological information to outside professional individuals and agencies.
    • Clearly communicate assessment findings and recommendations to student parents teachers and staff.
  • Provides psychological services that are preventative in nature.
    • Provide counseling and/or psychological services as a related service of special education when needed is determined by the ARD committee.
    • Serves as a team member on the MDIT.
    • Provides professional support for Student Assistance Committee in the R to I process.
  • Acts as a resource for building principals and their staffs upon request.
    • Provides consultation and/or inservice to principals and teachers.
    • Teaches methods of intervention and modification of behavior.
    • Teaches theories of child development group dynamics perception and learning.
    • Interprets and applies appraisal and assessment data as it relates to the students performance.
  • Participates in professional and community activities which will improve services in the areas of appraisal diagnosis prevention and/or intervention methods related to learning and behavior problems.
  • Participation in PLC and other departmental meetings.
  • Perform all TEA Audit Mandates as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional license
  • Attendance in departmental meetings.
  • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Services.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility standing prolonged sitting some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling reaching/repetitive hand motions and the ability to work with frequent interruptions. May be required to lift or position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist nonambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards. Mental demands: Ability to maintain emotional control under stress; ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data ability to be effective in both oral and written communication. Travel within the district as required.
