Position Summary

The Community School Director is responsible for the coordination and alignment of resources within a Community School to support students flourishing in thriving communities. Coordinated resources and programs address Lynn Public Schools key priority areas of student achievement and attendance and family engagement; the exact resources to be coordinated are dependent on needs present in the school community such as academic socialemotional and health. The Community School Director works to create high performing Community School partnerships wherein students and families feel supported community members feel connected and successful outcomes emerge.

The Community School Director works primarily at the assigned school with the local community and understands that building and maintaining high functioning relationships is essential. The role of the Director is complex and requires a dynamic person who can effectively navigate and interconnect multiple systems to achieve success for children and families. The Community School Director carries out their work in partnership with others and under the vision and direction of the school principal. A willingness to learn and continuously improve with patience and flexibility to adapt in a changing environment are a must as is the ability to oversee and supervise programming outside of the school day.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in a field related to the guidance education and development of children youth and families. DESE Licensure preferred in guidance child development social work and psychology.
  • Minimum of three years related experience working with youth families and/or community partners in an urban setting.
  • Experience in bilingualbicultural settings with a demonstrated ability to relate to multicultural populations.
  • Effective communication with youth parents/guardians staff and communityatlarge in both oral and written form.
  • Experience with the use of data to drive decisions.
  • Proven ability in budget preparation and lineitem expenditure process.
  • An understanding of the model and philosophy of Community Schools.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Skilled in partnership building and relationship management.
  • Strong presentation facilitative and adaptive leadership skills with audiences of various sizes of various educational backgrounds and with competing agendas.
  • Experience with program development and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of the public education system in Lynn or Massachusetts as well as the operation of communitybased organizations is an asset.
  • Organized and able to take initiative and assume responsibility for tasks and projects.
  • Able to work in teams and independently without constant direct supervision.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends (Hours vary based on school buildings.
  • Proficient with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Suite.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate the creation of a Community Schools Implementation Plan to create greater academic success student wellbeing and family engagement.
    • Facilitate an Assets and Opportunities Assessment (AOA) in partnership with an AOA team. The AOA is an assetbased community assessment process that utilizes multiple tools and models of data collection to gather information about a communitys assets resources and needs; this could take 34 months to complete.
    • Analyze data from the AOA to facilitate the creation of a Community Schools Implementation Plan.
    • Align Community Schools Implementation Plan to the schools School Improvement Plan

  • Collaborative leadership and project management:
    • Assist in leading a schoolbased leadership team in defining short and longterm goals and objectives as part of the school redesign and Community Schools strategy.
    • Develop and facilitate an effective Community School Advisory team.
    • Promote Community School initiatives in the area of curriculum instruction attendance family engagement and professional development.
    • Manage of the Community Schools Implementation Plan with a diverse ecosystem of partners and stakeholders who share relevant data highlight concerns and collaboratively develop solutions.
    • Connect in meaningful ways with families to ensure their voices are heard and needs are being identified and met.
    • Manage the Community Schools operations budget under the supervision of the principal.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities related to Community Schools as well as participate in other related PD offered by the district and partners.

  • Partnership Development and Management:
    • Participate in appropriate school and community meetings community partner organization meetings neighborhood association meetings and parent organization meetings to ensure strategic communication and alignment.
    • Build strong relationships with school partners and diverse community collaborators and identify opportunities for them to align services critical to school and community needs.
    • Provide training and technical assistance to community partners key stakeholders school staff and volunteers as needed.
    • Lead extended programming such as: tutoring counseling family engagement; integrated student support for SEL and clinical services; and hours that support the programming for after school tutoring family programming and clinical support with a clinician.

  • Use data to drive decisions to support extended learning time programming:
    • Facilitate the design and implementation of data driven interventions to achieve specific outcomes primarily academic identified in the Community Schools Implementation Plan.
    • Assist with monitoring schoollevel performance data analysis and redesign development.
    • Collect review and analyze student data when new strategies are being developed and plan for continuous improvement of existing interventions.
    • Gather analyze and share data on an ongoing basis to facilitate conversations meetings and daily decisions.
    • Generate recommendations and reports on outcomes of the Community School effort for various stakeholders.

The Community School Director role is versatile by design incorporating itself into many facets of the operation of the school. It should be clear however that Community School Directors do not take on the following school roles:

  • Substitute teacher
  • Leadership position in the PTO/PTA/PTC
  • Guidance counselor
  • Direct service provider/case manager
  • Assistant principal
  • Primary translator of documents or family interactions
  • Coordinator for all school field trips assemblies school events and programs unrelated to Community School initiative

REPORTS TO:Principal

  • Daily direction support and oversight is provided by the principal of the school. Orientation to the Community Schools model and ongoing technical assistance and support is provided by United Way of Massachusetts Bay.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

HOURS: Fulltime hourly (nonexempt) 190 days.

Regular work hours are MondayFriday 10:30 6:30 pm with a thirty 30 minute lunch break. Work hours are subject to change based on events and activities happening at the school and adjusted to complete an eighthour work day with flexible start and end times given the event schedule.

SALARY: $90000 fixed annual salary Per individual contract. Grant funded.
