Elementary School Principal
JOB GOAL:To provide the leadership and management necessary to administer and supervise all programs policies and activities of the school to ensure high quality educational experience and services for the students in a safe and enriching environment.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold valid Kentucky Teacher Certificate
- Professional Certificate for Instructional LeadershipPrincipal All Grades
- Minimum of five years experience teaching in an elementary school.
- School Supervisory experience
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the practices methods and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all programs in a school; skill in oral and written communications; ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials parents students teachers support staff and associates.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To develop and maintain an effective educational program consistent with State and Federal guidelines and the philosophy policies and goals of the School Board; meeting and conferring with students parents faculty and staff; maintaining records and files; preparing reports.
- Responsible for the overall administration of the school; interpret and enforce school and school division policies and regulations.
- Work in conjunction with teachers and others in the transformation of the school culture into a resultsoriented collaborative learning community.
- Work to collaborative develop implement and refinement of the schools Plan for Continuous Improvement.
- Monitor compliance with federal state and local mandates and guidelines related to local and state testing programs and the local special education program.
- Plan and implement a professional development/growth program for teachers and staff.
- Propose schedule of classes and extracurricular activities; help schedule courses students and teachers.
- Work with department heads and faculty in compiling the annual budget requests.
- Request supplies textbooks and equipment conduct inventories maintain records and check on receipts for such material.
- Coordinates transportation custodial cafeteria and other school support services; conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
- Maintains discipline throughout the student body; deal with special cases as necessary.
- Serve with parents faculty and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
- Maintain a variety of files; prepare periodic and special reports as required.
- Identify the special needs of students on a regular basis seeking the assistance of school system specialists as required.
- Supervise teachers and departments.
- Explain and interpret divisionwide curriculum/instructional goals and objectives to teachers parents pupils and the community.
- Responsible for the planning and implementation of a systematic method of supervising the instructional program through the use of learning walks observations documentations and followup conferences.
- Responsible for assisting teachers in evaluating methods and materials and developing effective learning plans and classroom management techniques.
- Responsible for the coordination and supervision of guidance services.
- Maintain and model high standards of professionalism.
- Perform related work as required.
- Meets the Standards and Indicators set forth in the Certified Personnel Evaluation Plan.
- Abides by the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnel.
- Adheres to the requirements of District employee handbook Owensboro Board of Education policies KRS and KAR and applicable Federal laws
- Demonstrates loyalty and dedication to the purposes and goals of the Owensboro Public Schools.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor environmentally controlled. Typical office environment including but not limited to telephones personal interruptions background noises. May require working with or near the public parents and children and will be subject to sounds scents and other related environmental factors. This position will require dealing with conflict and requires use of sound judgement.
