The Department of Public Works (DPW) is the largest agency in the City of Baltimore and is by far its most complex municipal operation. The City is seeking a strong strategic leader to be its next Deputy Director of Public Works. This position will assist in managing a large diverse public utility be committed to sustainability communicate as effectively to employees as elected officials and bring creative problemsolving skills to the agency.

Under the supervision of the Director of Public Works the Deputy Director plans organizes and directs the activities of the agency through Bureau Heads division chiefs managers administrative staff and supervisors. The Deputy Director is secondincommand and serves as Acting Director in the Directors absence. This role offers a unique opportunity for a forwardthinking professional to take on increasing responsibilities and grow within the organization. The selected candidate will work closely with senior leadership gaining valuable insights and experience to prepare for future leadership opportunities including potential directorlevel roles.

Compensation and Benefits

The hiring salary range for this position is $135862 $224466 annually. In addition to competitive compensation the City of Baltimore provides a comprehensive benefits package including between 12 and 24 days of annual leave based on years of service four personal days per fiscal year 12 paid holidays and 12 days of sick leave annually. This position also includes a takehome vehicle and an assigned downtown parking space. Relocation assistance is negotiable.

Fulltime employees are eligible for health benefits covering at least 80 of total premiums with plans that include medical prescription dental vision and Life/AD&D insurance. Employees can also opt into Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts and have free access to the Citys Employee Assistance Program. Retirement savings options include a Hybrid Plan with a defined benefit and a 401(a) defined contribution account or a nonhybrid 401(a) defined contribution plan. Participation in one of the retirement plans is mandatory. You will also be required to complete a Financial Disclosure pursuant to Sections 77 78 and 79 of the City Ethics Law.

Desired Qualifications

This position requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelors degree along with at least five years of leadership experience as a senior policy advisor senior operations manager or technical subject matter expert including at least five years in local government or public utilities. Preferred qualifications include management experience in a diverse complex local government or public utility environment. A postgraduate degree is desirable but not required.
