Job Description

The Human Resources department is a part of the administration team providing support to the programs of House of Friendship. The Human Resources Partner supports the organizations success by providing support coaching and subject matter expertise to leaders and employees on topics related to employee relations recruitment and retention health and safety healthy work environment engagement and culture.

** This is a permanent salaried fulltime 37.5 hours per week) position with paid sick time personal days vacation time; group health benefits and defined contribution pension plan.

Schedule Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm with some flexibility based on program needs.

Valid G class drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle required; travel throughout the

Region of Waterloo. **

Key Responsibilities:

Promote and support a strong healthy and safe workplace culture for all employee and leaders in all interactions

Maintain productive and supportive working relationships with managers and employees by providing support and guidance regarding the application and interpretation of organizational policies and procedures applicable employment laws and best practices

Continuous improvement of all Human Resources programs through regular review of programs including feedback from stakeholders

Coach leaders and employees through conflict/concern resolution performance development and performance management processes

In conjunction with the HR Manager cofacilitate workplace violence harassment or complaints review/investigation and resolution processes

Provide leadership and support to various human resourceled teams including the Health and Safety Work Group Psychological Health and Safety team

Manage all leaves of absence return to work and workplace accommodation processes; providing guidance and support to employees and managers throughout these processes

Develop administer interpret and continuously improve and maintain Human Resources policies procedures forms and programs

Work with managers and applicable staff to identify training needs and coordinate both in house and external training

Provide leadership to managers and health and safety representatives; supporting proactive health and safety initiatives to minimize/eliminate risk and safety issues

Provide expert guidance and support for Occupational Health & Safety Committees

Organize and chair quarterly and ad hoc Health and Safety Work Group (HSWG) meetings and support the functioning of the Joint Health and Safety Committees

Administrative support for HSWG including minutes audits follow ups communications and compliance

Work with health and safety representatives and managers to review and investigate accidents and injuries

Partner with hiring managers to develop recruitment strategies and interventions to attract qualified candidates who are aligned with House of Friendship values and culture

Develop job postings and determine effective advertisement sources employing recruitment best practices to proactively target diverse candidate pools

Provide support for candidate screening and the interview process as needed

Utilize and develop creative recruiting sources including social media partnerships with schools community agencies professional associations or others fostering positive relationships through regular contact

Participate in job fairs and networking events; identify new opportunities to connect with candidates

Maintain the Applicant Tracking System including providing training for new users

Collect and analyze data related to health and safety recruitment retention engagement etc. identify trends and make recommendations to leadership

Act as a change agent; contributing to continuous improvement and the successful implementation of change initiatives

Support House of Friendships compensation program by working with managers to develop and evaluate job descriptions; and participating as a member of the Job Evaluation Committee

Provide support to the payroll process on a biweekly basis

Job Specific Knowledge/Skills:

Demonstrated coaching conflict resolution and negotiation skills

Demonstrated collaborative approach that values open and honest communication integrity respect consistency and fairness

Experience working with leaves of absence workplace accommodation and return to work plans

Experience with developing policies procedures and program development (i.e. health and safety wellness healthy work environment etc.

Comprehensive knowledge of applicable employment legislation including Employment Standards Act; Human Rights Code Occupational Health and Safety Act; Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act etc.

Knowledge of and experience working with Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) and Ministry of Labour including Early and Safe Return to Work

Must be able to meet deadlines handle multiple tasks with interruptions and effectively adapt to changing priorities

Must be detail oriented analytical problem solver and creative thinker. Resourceful self motivated and organized

Demonstrated skills using a variety of software programs including HRIS systems Sharepoint MS Office Internet etc.

Education/Experience:

Diploma or degree in human resources labour relations or business

Certified Human Resources Leader designation preferred

At least three 3 years previous human resources generalist experience

Health and Safety program experience with administration of policies and legislative compliance preferred

Critical Skills:

Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected

Exemplary emotional intelligence resilience communication conflict management and problemsolving skills required

Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff participants and community members

Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds income levels and sensitivity to their needs

Experience with and commitment to using an antiracism antioppressive and trauma informed approach to consultation program design evaluations of processes and service delivery

Must be dependable professional flexible a team player and have a positive attitude

Respectful supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities addictions mental illness and other life challenges

Excellent project timeline and deadline management skills including skills in logistics planning and detailed record keeping

Rate of Pay:

At House of Friendship all compensation ranges are categorized under a series of grades and we base our payment structure on internal determining rate of pay a candidates past related experience will be taken into consideration.

Grade: 5

Min: $27.04

Mid: $31.03

Max: $35.02

Working Conditions:

37.5 hours per week generally daytime weekday hours

Work may be performed in a home office for some of the weekly hours

Some hours required inoffice/onsite weekly

Very occasional evening or weekend hours to meet the needs of the programs

Encountering participants at program sites who may be under the influence of alcohol or other and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected
