Job Description

FullTime and Permanent; 6.5 Hours/Day; 183 Days/Year; 10 Months/Year; Grade HH

This is a grantfunded position.

General Responsibilities

This position is responsible for providing instructional support services and training to parents of Norfolk Public Schools children. The purpose of this position is to create a partnership between home and school that will result in parents who are better prepared and more confident in their quest to help their children succeed in school. This position requires homes visits organizing meetings and workshops and provides training to enhance the parents ability to support their children in school. Please be advised that this position is grantfunded.

Education and Experience

Requires an Associates Degree or successful completion of the ParaPro test administered by the Department of Education; and 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least two years of customer service experience preferred. Requires a valid drivers license.

Essential Job Functions

  • Must be willing to drive in neighborhoods associated with the school district.
  • Good knowledge of the community and areas served by the assigned school;
  • Some knowledge of the instructional programs school requirements and community resources;
  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain rapport with students parents school personnel and resource persons in the community.
  • Must maintain a positive link between family members and school personnel.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with parents students school personnel and resource persons in the community.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with parents who may be reluctant to intervene with school personnel.
  • Provides instructional support services and training to parents of Norfolk Public Schools children.
  • The purpose of this position is to create a partnership between the home and school that will result in parents who are better prepared thus more confident in their quest to help their children succeed in school.
  • An employee in this position makes homes visits organizes meetings and workshops and provides training to enhance the parents ability to support their children in school.
  • Work is performed under direct supervision of a building administrator and additional supervision and inservice training through the Office of Early Learning/Title I.
  • Arranges and/or conducts parent conferences.
  • Maintains a daily log and completes accountability reports as required.
  • Schedules arranges prepares conducts workshops for parents and/or school staff.
  • Assess with school volunteer or students mentorship programs.
  • Makes home visits to discuss student behavior and to discuss how parents can help students at home.
  • Works with and through community agencies to improve student academic performance.
  • Observes and reviews student school performance.
  • Calls parents when student are absent from school.
  • Arranges makeup assignments for parents when students are out.
  • Collaborates with teachers when students are absent from school.
  • Ensures all reports are submitted in a timely manner and in accordance with Family Involvement Plan Spending Plan Parent Compact Parental Involvement Policy and Monthly Reports.
  • Facilitates Math Night and Reading Night for parents each school year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
