Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health & Community Services is Canberras only Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service. Located in the heart of Canberra we provide trusted holistic healthcare to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the ACT and surrounding areas.
The Connected Beginnings Program aims to give Indigenous children the best possible start before they begin school. This initiative contributes to reducing the difference in school readiness and education outcomes between Aboriginal and nonAboriginal children.
Winnunga is establishing a new team to support this vital program and we need a passionate skilled individual to help us make a real difference!
About the Role
As the Community Coordinator you will play a key role in planning and coordinating playgroups and community engagement activities to enhance early childhood development. You will work closely with the Connected Beginnings Lead to develop a service map promote collaboration among service providers and ensure culturally appropriate integrated support for children and families.
Key Responsibilities includes:
Plan coordinate and deliver playgroups and other early childhood engagement programs.
Develop and maintain a service map of early childhood health education and family support services in Canberra and surrounding areas.
Work with service providers to promote collaboration information sharing and culturally responsive practices.
Organize workshops and community events to enhance early years support.
Work collaboratively in a small highly functional team to support program objectives.
Skills and qualities we are looking for:
Background and qualifications in Early Childhood Education with strong understanding and experience with early childhood development and learning in the 0 5 age group.
Experience in planning and delivering early childhood programs such as playgroups.
Some understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child health and education.
Ability to work with cultural experts to incorporate culturally appropriate practices and community engagement.
Excellent coordination and communication skills to foster collaboration.
