Security and Safety Specialist
Location: Shadow Mountain High School
9 months 8 hours per day
Grade 14 $15.63 per hour

Purpose Statement
The job of Security and Safety Specialist is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for the safety and welfare of students staff and community members while on school grounds and in alignment with school and district policy and procedures.
This job reports to Site Administration
Essential Functions
Communicates safety and security policies procedures to students staff and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of such information and for the maintenance of a positive campus climate.
Monitors student behavior before and after school during and between assigned periods and at student events. May be directed to supervise lunchroom classrooms with substitutes detention open areas athletic events and other events as needed. Assists students in complying with established guidelines maintaining a safe and positive learning environment and securing the facility.
Patrols school facilities (e.g. grounds roads buildings adjacent areas parking lots etc. for the purpose of providing visibility maintaining safety and security and promoting a positive campus environment.
Assists with the implementation of the schools emergency response plan in the event of a school emergency such as lockdown evacuation shelter in place etc.
Prepares written materials for the purpose of documenting student behavior activities providing written reference of activities and/or conveying information.
Provides traffic and parking control for the purpose of maintaining efficient traffic flow and use of parking lot/s.
Refers incidents including personal injuries altercations suspicious activities rule violations etc. to appropriate site personnel for the purpose of ensuring followup in accordance with administrative site security and student safety guidelines.
Responds to a variety of situations (e.g. accidents injuries vandalism alarms etc. for the purpose of taking the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns.
Participates in unit meetings inservice training workshops etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
Supports and enhances campus culture through the use of practices that encourage students to understand the impact of their actions be reflective of their actions and find a means to make amends for their actions.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and the social emotional well being of the campus.
May assist or be assigned to other district campuses as needed.
Participates in district/local inservice training.
Attend district behavioral safety training for de escalation strategies.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment including software; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand multistep written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: health standards and hazards; safety practices and procedures.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic jobrelated equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize jobrelated equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; setting priorities; working with frequent redirection of priorities and duties.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the jobs functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organizations services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling some climbing and balancing some stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 35 sitting 50 walking and 15 standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Experience: Job related experience is desired.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
