JOB DETAILS

The Family and Community Coordinator is responsible for working collaboratively with the school and community to improve and increase family engagement that creates strong support for teaching learning and student achievement. The Family and Community Coordinator provides support to school staff around issues of family engagement and involvement conducts outreach to families while communicating priorities and goals of the school and engages families in decisionmaking processes within the school. The Family and Community Coordinator works towards the goals of improving communication among staff and parents enhancing families capacity to support their childrens learning and to serve as leaders in the school community. The Family and Community works with staff families and community organizations to create a school environment that is consistently welcoming to families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree orParaprofessional Certification with experience
  • Proficient communication in English (listening speaking reading and writing). Bilingual/Bicultural highly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders
  • Experience in developing and/or leading workshops andtrainings(or willingness to learn)
  • Willingnessto learn and applynew skills and content
  • Strong desire to work with students and families in an urban setting
  • Computerskills (MS Office/Google Suite database word processing spreadsheet and/or presentation skills)and internet literacy
  • Abilityto multitask
  • An understanding of the concepts of institutionaland structural racism and bias and their impact on undeserved and underrepresented communities
  • Opportunities for additionalhoursas needed
  • Ability to work with information that requiresmaintaininga high level of confidentiality

PERFORMANCERESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and maintain a welcoming environment for families to access school information and resources and welcome new students and families to the school.
  • Build support and maintainopen positive and proactivecommunication with families about their goals and expectations forstudent learningand communicate school goals and expectations for student learning in ways that diverse families and community members can understand.
  • Build support and maintain communication between educators and families on various topics including but not limitedto:attendancedisabilities abuse or poverty student truancy misbehavior and/or delinquency.
  • Provide current informationsuchasschool procedures instructional programs Title 1 funding and roles of administrators and staffto parents through direct contact newspapers and online means.
  • Organize required paperwork between parents and students.
  • Translateand disseminateschool notices
  • Serve as Interpreter and/or Translator for nonsensitive information that does not involve individual students achievement and/or behavior.
  • Assistwithfamilyfocused events programs and professional development workshops.
  • Attend and participate inFamily and Community Coordinatormeetings
  • AttendnonIEP Meetingswith families (i.e.admission behavioral and/or healthsuspension hearings etc.
  • Maintainappropriatedocumentationregardingcommunication in the student informationsystem (SIS).
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers support staff and parents and advocate for children in order to effectively solve problems
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

REPORTS TO:Principal and Classroom Teacher

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Paraprofessionalsstarting salary is $21.89 per hour.

Additional credits will be adjusted pending verification of additional college credits.
