This vacancy announcement pertains to law enforcement and/or governmental officials within INTERPOLs member countries only.

Please read the Conditions of Secondment in force at INTERPOL including the maximum duration of secondment.

Please be aware that your home Administration/Agency/Service/Government will be responsible for all of your salary/remuneration social insurance pension contributions welfare benefits family allowances benefits during your assignment at INTERPOL as well as travel removal expenses related to your arrival at and departure from INTERPOL and any other related costs depending on your circumstances. It is requested that you obtain in writing confirmation from your home Administration/Agency/Service/Government that it agrees with these CONDITIONS OF SECONDMENT. INTERPOL is now looking for a qualified candidate as a SECONDMENT Senior Coordinator Africawithin the Exec. Dir. Police Services which is part of theCounterTerrorism.

INTRODUCTION TO POST

The Senior Coordinator under the supervision of the Assistant Director is in charge of implementing and operationalizing the INTERPOL CounterTerrorism Strategy through activities and initiatives pertaining to the regional and thematic areas covered by his/her Unit.

The incumbent is the Organizations central point of liaison and contact in the police thematic area/region of interest and is expected to provide advice to the Assistant Director and other hierarchy regarding opportunities and member countries needs for capacity building training operations and other types of support. This includes preparing operational plans written analytical and operational assessments status reports oral presentations and speeches conducting needs assessments and any other relevant activities pertaining to the police thematic area/region of interest.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  1. The incumbent will coordinate and ensure the delivery of daily tasks activities and projects and any other actions pertaining to the Unit/Team within the SubDirectorate and will:
    • perform tasks to ensure efficient support to member countries while always seeking to develop the SubDirectorate and provide new relevant services.
    • deliver the key tactical and strategic outcomes in the fight against terrorism in accordance with the strategic plan of the Directorate.
    • lead and manage staff working in the Unit/Team under his/her responsibility by providing them with daily guidance and active supervision of their duties and by ensuring proper implementation of policies hierarchical decisions and deliverables in compliance with the Directorates priorities and Organizational governance.
    • provide proactive strategic and operational guidance and support to relevant stakeholders on counterterrorism in the police area/region of interest.

  1. Act as INTERPOLs central point of contact in the framework of the thematic area/region of interest and is expected to provide strategic advice to the Assistant Director and hierarchy. This will include preparing operation plans written analytical and operational assessments status reports oral presentations and speeches conducting training needs and other relevant issues pertaining to the thematic area/region of interest.

  1. Develop and maintain effective contacts and networks and foster productive relationships with other national regional and international agencies and institutions outside the Organization.

  1. Explore opportunities with member countries partners and stakeholders to cooperate and collaborate on initiatives projects activities and other work to progress the implementation and operationalization of the Directorates global strategy to maximize impact and effect.

  1. Assist the Assistant Director in the smooth running of the SubDirectorate on a daily basis including acting in the role of Assistant Director at the SubDirectorate level and at conferences and/or meetings.

  1. Perform any other duties as required by the Assistant Director and/or Director.

REQUIREMENTS

Education and qualification required:

  • At least five years education at a University or specialized higher education establishment.

Experience and skills required:

  • Experienced police officer or law enforcement agency official.
  • At least eight years of experience in the field of counterterrorism is required.
  • Sound investigative skills and knowledge in the field of counterterrorism investigations is required.
  • Experience in staff management and supervision is required.
  • Experience in project management is highly desirable.
  • Experience in working in an international environment is desirable.

Languages:

  • Oral and written command of English.
  • Knowledge of another INTERPOL official language (French Spanish and/or Arabic) would be an additional asset.

Abilities required:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills (Public speaking and delivery of presentations in English);
  • Proficiency with Office software computers and Internet;
  • Ability to think/plan operationally and strategically and transform initiatives into new working practices;
  • work well under pressure (meet sudden deadlines);
  • willingness to work overtime when the situation dictates.
