Job Description

Department Overview

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the universitys missions and goals of teaching research patient care outreach and public service.

To meet its statewide mission to support the health and wellbeing of all Oregonians Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) offers degrees in a number of health profession disciplines in addition to those in its DMD MD and undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. This includes a BS in Radiation Therapy a Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) an MS and PhD in Medical Physics an MS in Food Systems and Security an MS in Human Nutrition and a Dietetic Internship. In collaboration with Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) OHSU also offers an AAS in paramedic a BS in Emergency Medical Services a BS in Medical Laboratory Science and a Doctor of Physical Therapy. OHSU also continually explores expanding its program offerings to meet the health care workforce needs of Oregon and the evolving nature of health care delivery across the State.

Working in collaboration with the Deans Program Directors and leaders at Oregon Tech and other institutions the Vice Provost Health Professions is responsible for the overall academic financial and operational oversight of OHSUs health profession programs. The Vice Provost is also responsible for analyzing the health care workforce needs of Oregon and overseeing the strategic development of new degree programs to meet identified gaps.

Function/Duties of Position

The Vice Provost Health Professions will be responsible for overall leadership direction organization and fiscal oversight of the health profession programs at OHSU. This includes but is not limited to:

  • 1 collaborating with Program Directors to maintain and enhance the education of students to prepare them to health professionals in a changing world;
  • 2 maintaining high standards in faculty recruitment appointments and promotion;
  • 3 ensuring the success and mentorship and development of faculty members teaching in the health professions programs;
  • 4 maintaining and enhancing the financial health of the health professions programs;
  • 5 ensuring strong collaborative relationships with the executive offices at OHSU Oregon Tech and other partner institutions and the Deans of the universities schools and colleges;
  • 6 taking an active leadership role in promoting and building the awareness of the health profession programs at OHSU across the region and nationally;
  • 7 fostering a studentcentered culture that enhances effective teaching builds strong relationships between students faculty staff and alumni and promotes leadership development;
  • 8 improving student diversity and other DEIB outcomes;
  • 9 ensure success of the 303030 Initiative within the health profession programs by increasing (Aim 1 and student diversity (Aim 2.;
  • 10 working collaboratively with the Campus for Rural Health Office of Rural Health Areas Health Education Centers and others to promote interest and recruitment in the health professions in Oregons rural and underserved areas; and
  • 11 exploring the development of new health professions programs to meet the evolving needs of the heath care community across the State.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will be both an experienced academic leader with a strategic vision for addressing the healthcare needs of Oregon and someone who possesses the skills to translate that vision into action. Moreover through their experience the candidate will have a clear and articulate understanding of the contemporary needs and approaches to addressing the healthcare needs of the State. In addition to an earned doctorate or equivalent the successful candidate must possess a high level of financial and managerial acumen and the proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other senior leaders faculty staff students and alumni. The successful candidate will also have experience working with state legislative bodies academic partner institutions and other external constituents. The successful candidate will possess a clear understanding of the importance of diversity for an academic health center and the ability and skill to help lead the institution towards achieving its strategic goals for diversity.

Preference will be given to candidates who can hold the rank of Professor at OHSU.
