What Youll Do:

As a collaborative member of the Multilingual Learner team this ELD Teacher will be responsible for providing direct language instruction to ML students that serves as a powerful lever to increase English proficiency academic language acquisition and student achievement. ELD teachers work either in SEI settings in our district schools or in a Dual Language setting if hired at the Bentley Academy Innovation School.

Role Responsibilities:

• Teaches ELD classes to ML students of all proficiency levels that are aligned to WIDA CanDo Descriptors Common Core Standards and provide students with rigorous opportunities to engage in critical thinking and language learning in all domains.
• Plans curricula and daily lesson plans that are accessible scaffolded and utilize complex texts.
• Promotes a positive classroom environment that celebrates the diversity of the student population and fosters a love of learning.
• Demonstrates a commitment to excellence equity and high expectations for all students by building on the strengths that students bring to the language learning process
• Leverages extensive knowledge of first and second language acquisition in planning and collaborating with general education teaching colleagues coplans and coteaches as assigned by building principal
• Communicates regularly and proactively with parents and families in a culturally proficient manner
• Evaluates each students formative progress in English skills (listening speaking reading and writing) and prepares progress reports
• Serves as an advocate for the needs of the ML students on grade level and instructional teams
• Works under the general supervision of the building principal ML Director and/or other designated administrator to review student proficiency levels appropriate ML services and ML data
• Additional duties may be assigned

Job Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree Required; Masters Degree preferred
• Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in ESL for the appropriate grade level
• Dual Certification (appropriate grade level or Special Education) a plus
• Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
• Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement (Required within 1year of start date)
• Second Language (Spanish or Portuguese) Proficiency a plus
• Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply
• Current authorization to work in the United States

Salary: Teacher salaries in the Salem Public Schools are determined by the Salem Teachers Union collective bargaining agreement (see new 202427 language with updated salary information here.
