Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Laborer REPORTS TO: Facilities & Operation Director DEPARTMENT: Facilities & Operation CATEGORY: Classified

CONTRACT TERM: Twelve Months 12 CLASSIFICATION: NonExempt

JOB SUMMARY: The position of Maintenance Laborer under general supervision of the Maintenance Foreman assists with facilities maintenance tasks and works independently to perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled duties. This position performs manual labor activities on school site.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Performs manual labor and a variety of skilled and semiskilled facilities maintenance work as directed by the supervisor.
  2. Digs ditches and trenches by hand where the earth may be hard and compact.
  3. Does leveling and grinding work by hand. Mixes and pours concrete asphalt and other surface materials. Installs and maintains various types of fences.
  4. Performs grounds keeping maintenance to include tree lawn and shrub maintenance.
  5. Performs excavation grading cleaning and other general laborer tasks.
  6. Operates equipment including forklifts jackhammers wackers etc.
  7. Occasionally operates tractors backhoes compactors for excavation grading and paving.
  8. Places and finishes asphalt concrete and other hardscape surfaces.
  9. Erects scaffolding.
  10. Sweeps sidewalks parking areas asphalt toppings and empties exterior trash receptacles in order to keep the school campus visually appealing. Maintains a safe and healthy environment for students staff and community.
  11. Works alongside the maintenance workers when needed to accomplish the assigned task.
  12. Under the supervision of the Maintenance Foreman follows shop routine or other specific orders given by the supervisor.
  13. Reports any unsafe workplace condition and unsafe equipment to the supervisor.
  14. Works with little or no supervision therefore responsibility to the department is a must.
  15. Performs a variety of general tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Ability to operate and maintain various types of power and hand equipment to include small engine equipment and hand tools for maintenance and lawn/ grounds keeping work.
  2. Knowledge of methods materials and equipment appropriate to the area of responsibility.
  3. Knowledge of the tools materials and standard practices of the building and maintenance trades.
  4. Ability to support the design construction installation and maintenance of grading and paving.
  5. Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  6. Ability to work from sketches drawings and specifications.
  7. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  8. Ability to maintain records.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationship with others.
  10. Knowledge of general school site rules and policy.
  11. Knowledge of Governing Board rules of conduct and policy.
  12. Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
  13. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others requiring the ability to interact professionally and courteously with students faculty staff and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  2. One 1 years work experience in facilities maintenance or construction.

PREFERRED QUAILIFICATIONS:

  1. Hopi/Indian Preference in employment considered.
  2. Valid State Driver Licenses.
  3. Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  4. Must successfully pass employment background checks within the last five years which include state federal and local tribe.
